Lucanus, or flying kite, female. Lucanus cervus.

Photographed close to the village of Exoudun, Deux-Sèvres, and the Sèvre Niortaise river.

The Lucanus or Kite (Lucanus cervus) concerns Lucanidés, very great family on a world level, but which in France counts less than one ten species. It is largest and most imposing of the European insects. It is also largest of our coleopters, and the most impressive so much development mandibulaire of the males can reach spectacular proportions, which adds
to the resemblance to the wood of cervidé.

amicalement,
Pat

HI Joel,
Wonderful dorsal view illustrating its ferocious mandibles. Very neat and sharp image with fine focus. The lighting is superb and you have captured a nice pose displaying all its features clearly. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Wow, Joel!

This looks like a big beetle! By the size of its mandibles, a ferocious beetle!

Good sharp image. The body looks to have been made from mahogany!

Kind regards,
bev :-)

Bonjour Joel,

Bonjour Joel,
Anne
