[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This time, it is greetings from Malaysia.
While visiting some friends on the island of Penang, we went to the Butterfly Garden, reputedly the world's first live tropical butterfly sanctuary. With over 4000 butterflies of some 120 different species fluttering around, I was in seventh heaven, and I have a few pictures to show for it.

Even with that plethora of butterflies flitting around, it is quite a challenge to find one in "photographable" pose. When you throw in the extreme humidity of a butterfly house, the crowd, and the sudden burst of water from the misting machines, I had quite a work-out.

Thanks to Peter Roos (batu) for the ID.

Blue Pansy
Junonia orithya wallacei

The Blue Pansy is one of the four Pansies found in Singapore. The male is the prettier of the two sexes, where the hindwing is a bright blue with an orange-red subtornal ocellus. The female is a sombre brown on the upperside. The undersides of both sexes are a pale brown, with the usual markings and ocelli of the Nymphalinae.
The butterfly is a sun-loving species, which can usually be found on grassy patches in open areas. The species is related to the Buckeye (Junonia coenia) found in the United States of America.
Males can sometimes be found in numbers, frolicking in the bright sunshine. They can fly quite rapidly and occasionally engage in a spiral dance going up some height from the ground.
The Blue Pansy is not as common as it used to be, and is usually found in areas where there is open grassland.

Hi ManYee

Sounds like the initial excitement of being between 4,000 butterflies of 120 different species suddenly had a turn about when the reality of the humidity and unexpected spray from the mist machine struck you. However, the challenge for that better photo still had the adrenaline pumping and you worked hard for you shots, it didn't just come to you on a platter.

So much then I need to say "bravo" for the success and beauty of this shot. These blue pansies are really something else to behold. You have captured this one with great details showing those amazing patterns and colours very well. The rock acted as a wonderful neutral BG this isolating the subject and keeping the eye focused on the insect and nothing else.

Well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot
