Today I have for you all a photo group of American Pelicans. These birds were resting at the end of a string of small islands at Frank Lake.Frank Lake is about 10 kms due east of High River and is home to a good variety of wildlife such as these birds, raptors, mice and weasels and many types of other water fowl as well.At the time my friend Kevin and I were at Frank Lake we must of seen 70 or so of these massive birds. They are larger than the tundra or trumpeter swans we have here in Alberta and when they are on the wing a sight to truly behold. These bird have a wing span up to 2.8 meters across or about 9 feet. They can be 1.75 meters long or about 6 feet. They are huge and can't be missed. The small photo is cropped, resized and slightly sharpen and the LP the same with contrast and brightness adjustments as well.PP was done with Paint.Net.I hope you like these birds as much as I did. Hello Bob,
A lovely scenery has been framed!
I like this composition, the birds are captured with fine details in the white plumages...
It is interesting to see holw they group together in this narrow spot, some even in the water!

Hi Bob,
Looks like they have their weekly meeting to create the new menu. I also like these birds alot, especially since I cannot see them in my country. Their clumpsy behaviour and large bodies always brings a bit of a smile to me.
You managed to captured them beautifully with a wonderful reflection as well. I like the panorma crop and the fitting DOF. The details and exposure in this photo are excellent especially considering the light and the white feathers.
TFS,
Niek

Nice work, Bob. I saw some of the first of these to have returned to our area earlier in the summer, and it was a surprise. My first reaction: Pelicans? Can't be! Anyway, good composition and cropping and respectable clarity and focus (looks like you may have had to zoom a lot, as I did). Good sharpening works, too. TFS.

That is quite a "gaggle" (?) of pelicans Bob. I have not seen so many all together out of the water. I am often amazed coming across these birds in some unusual, far inland places. I used to see them in California, in estuaries etc. but they are more numerous in the middle of Montana! I love pelicans... all varieties of them. The seem so prehistoric. It is a nice shot. Thanks for sharing it.
