| I found this "fun-guy" on the way back down the trail to Indian Racetrack in the Indian Heaven Wilderness area north of my home. I totally missed it on the way up the trail, and I can't imagine how that was possible since it was about 6 inches across and a bright orange! I'm not good with identification, but would be interested if it was an edible mushroom or not. My guess is not....but I really don't know. |

Hi Loir this looks very simlar to a fungus I posted on my TN site I think it could be a "Amanita muscaria" (also known by the English-language common name fly agaric) is a psychoactive agaric species found commonly throughout much of the world.
Though it is generally considered poisonous, Amanita muscaria is otherwise famed for its hallucinogenic properties with its main psychoactive constituent being the compound muscimol. Hope this is useful Cheers Rick :)
There are more of this variety than poison. I used to have these at my place on the ocean in Mendocino.....I am quite well versed in what they do and do not do...but considering throwing up is a part of the psychoactive process, I choose not to.. A great picture of one tho! Very nice...

Love the festive colors of this mushroom! Your depth of field and the fact that you are slightly above the mushroom makes for an interesting composition!
Cheers!
