[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was an annoying subject. I was able to spend ten minutes with this resting Waterfall Redspot (Austropetalia patricia), but I just couldn’t get into a position where I liked the composition. Always too much background. So here is a close-up of the wing and head and I’ve put the whole dragon in the workshop.

The Waterfall Redspot come from the Family Austropetaliidae, which are confined to south east Australia and Chile, which demonstrates how ancient this group of dragons are. In Australia, there are only two species and neither are apparently easy to find.
The common name comes from the fact that the larvae of this species are restricted to living in small waterfall splash-zones. The adults live near streams in moist eucalypt forest and rainforest and have a wingspan of 80mm.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Chris,
Wow, what an amazing species!!! I know this species but this is first time to see the close-up shot of A. patricia. Chris, could you send me the images of A. patricia by email? I'd like to see them more and different views. A bigger size would be better for me. :-)
Outstanding details and POV, nice DOF and lovely colours, well composed.
TFS and best wishes,
Kevin

Hello Chris,
This is a most unusually marked dragonfly that you have captured in a way that shows us the wing markings very well in a sharp composition. A good solution in your struggle to get a good shot.
The remarkable habitat requirement must make it rather rare I would have thought.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hello Chris,
this dragonfly shows interesting wing markings which, like the body colour, really do not well contrast against the dry fern leaf. The focus is just right and the background is sufficiently smooth and unstructured so that the right wings are clearly shown. Thank you for introducing this dragonfly species to me.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Chris,
I never saw this specimen before, it's wonderful and I like the wings so much.
Also a nice crop here, very well done

Hi Chris.
Interesting decision to show the most beautiful arts of pictured scene. Your picture is really impressive. Reflection of the dragonfly and its fine wing as well as the twigs is simply amazing. I like rich lovely colours and exceptional details and sharpness of the subject. BG is very nice too and harmonize with the main objects. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Chris,
WOw, this is terrific and new to me! Excellent macro and what amazing markings on the wing! I think your cropping looks really good and shows the intricate details and colours very well. Those eyes are unusual too! Great capture and very interesting!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla
