Lantana camara.
Common name: Common Lantana, Spanish Flag.
Common Hindi name: Raimuniya.
Plant: 1.0-2.25m. Scrambling, evergreen, strong smelling shrub with stout recurved prickles.
Flower: 4mm across. Flower head: 4cm across. Aromatic.
Native to tropical regions of the Americas, Africa and existing as an imported plant in numerous areas, especially in the Australian-Pacific region. Naturalised throught India. Seen from plains to 1,500m in hills.
It is an invasive species and has covered large areas in India as well as Australia.
Its berries are toxic before they become ripe, and can be poisonous to pets as well as livestock.
Though the stems even of larger lantanas are thin, the wood is very tough and durable and thus useful for various handicrafts such as wickerwork. The Soliga of Karnataka (India) are nowadays utilizing Lantana in their wickercraft. The plant is an invasive weed there, and has displaced much of the bamboo which formerly was the preferred material for Soliga artisans. By selectively harvesting lantanas for their craft, they are again able to make a living, as well as assisting the recovery of the native ecosystem and reducing the risk of forest fires.

Hi Nirmal,
A good presentation of Lantana flowers. Nice composition and well exposed. Only nit is that you should add some notes about them. Anyway thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Nirmal,
I like the composition. It is much more interesting than it would have been had you isolated the blossoms as so many do. However, the shot might have been better if the blossoms were in sharp focus rather than the leaves.
