INDIAN COMMON SATYR

Friends, I am still waiting for an internet connection at my new residence in Delhi (Noida) for which I applied 10 days ago. Things take their own time in my country :-).

Though I do not use my work PC for TN, I had to make an exception today. I am posting a much better picture of a Satyr butterfly found in the Indian mountains (I shot this one at an altitude of about 8000 ft this August) than my previous two posts of it.

The butterfly belongs to the Nympalidae family under the sub-group of Satyrinae. Peter (batu) had identified it for me when I posted its first picture some time ago. Not much in-depth information is available on this species named Common Satyr (Aulocera swaha) on the web, hence a summary note.

This shot might look similar to the second one I posted earlier. However, the angle of exposure is slightly different here. Hope you like this one better.

Thanks and best regards to everyone who cared to look at this image.

hello mr thakur,
so nice to see you after a short break, i really miss your shots these days, this is a fine capture, i have never seen this species here, liked the pov and the composition, the light on the leaf creates beautiful effect,
well done,
tfs & regards
pankaj

Hello Sir,
Nice looking butterfly. You have photographed it well under difficult lighting conditions, sort of patchy light, but it has come out well. TFS
Regards
Anil

Hello Ram,
a pleasure to see that fresh picture from you - and from the Indian mountains! The angle of light does a wonderful job here to shape the wings, and the composition shows dynamic tension. Beautyful freshness of air in that capture. The butterfly looks very familiar to me as we have the very similar Aulocera circe flying in the hills next to Vienna.
With thanks, and wishing you all the best in settling down in your new hometown New Delhi,
Peter

Hello Ram!

Good looking butterfly. I like side view with well wisible wings. Interesting colours with black BG and white, diagonal strip on it. Composition is also quite good.

Hello Ram,
thank you for this nice life picture of Aulocera swaha. It is well focused and shows the wing colour pattern in detail and with natural colours. In most text books the species is figured only as pinned speciemens. An exception is found in "Smith C. (1989) Butterflies of Nepal".
Data on the species are really poor. There are obviously several subspecies. In Nepal it is recorded between 2300m and 4000m. Flight period is from mid August to October. The species prefers sunny places in forests.
Best wishes, Peter

Ramthakur, The diagonal composition of the picture and out of focus background makes this butterfly to stand out. It looks more like a moth, considering the amount of hair and the size of the wings than a butterfly. But the differences are very little. In any event, this is a lovely capture.

Hi Ram,
This is an another nice shot of Aulocera swaha from you. They only occur in high ground? Its orange colour of the antenna is impressive to me.

Hi Ram,

A wonderful view of this lovely butterfly. The deep colors and the wing patterns are beautiful. Nice diagonal composition with a good background. Hope you get connected soon.

Jane

Hi Ram,
I am gald you made an exception to misuse your work PC to show us this beauty. I do hope that your internet connection will be up and running soon. BTW, how is your new home? Are you enjoying it?
The photo is a very beautiful one, especially the lighting in the b'fy is wonderful. It brought out some of the stunning details and colors. The diagonal composition is very good, and the spider web creates a perfect effect to the depth of the photo.

Niek

Hello Ram!
What a marvellous capture of this curious and beautiful Satyr. The pattern on its wings is very well seen as well as their nervure. I like a lot those orange tips on the antenae and the blueish fuzz on the basis of the hind-wing.
Excellent sharpness and a good diagonal composition with that beautiful herb.
Congratulations, dear friend.
Greetings

Hello Ram,
this is beautiful. The reason why, for me, is that it is technically allright, but also there is a lot to see in the picture. The light coloured twig with the darker satyr match perfectly well. I like this one.
Regards, Jacob

Salut Ram
Elle est tres bonne cette composition avec ce papillon extra, bon BG bon détails et bellescouleurs
bravo merci du partage...JP

Hi Mr. Ram,
A beautiful capture of this satyr butterfly. Nice composition and good details. Very good POV too. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Ram!
I really do not like to write "I'm just marking, I'll be back" but during these days (the beginning of new academic year here at the university) there are more that more work to do. So I am really sorry for these words :)
According to your picture I have to say that I like it because of few things. The first one is that the butterfly is not very colourful, yes, because it is not so colourful :) It is simply non-commercial as for me. And that is realy good - nature does not include only colourful species. Anyway, the quality of picture is really nice. Very good sharpness (I can see spider web in the corner), DOF and POV.
TFS and my best regards from Lodz,
Radomir

Well done and Identified Ram.....Focus not problem of course and nice angle to the butterfly. Colorings of course are as is seen and as is naturally. Very good then. I hope you have better luck with your connections soon. I can only imagine with all other problems..now this..Is this any way to retired?

Hello Ram,
Long time no see :-)
Very nice diagonal compo with chilly colours. Almost good DOF, althought the aperture could be wider to blurr the background completely.
Anyway, a great shot.
Best greetings & TFS!
