Unless I see something VERY good...this is my last post of Autumn for a while. We are under a warning for possible heavy snows. If not, then it is or will be soon. This is not early for snow. In the Pacific NW USA we have had snow in July. Of course we have had days of over 100 degrees F. Nobody knows. A good friend and now passed on tracker, hunter and woodsman told me once. "The only people who can predict weather are newcomers and fools."

Autumn: a time of recession...a majestic, inexorable withdrawal of energy as the northern hemisphere retreats, by degrees, from the sun. It's a time of cooling, shrinking, ebbing, descending, darkening — of preparation for the challenges of winter.

The Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. It refuges all things in its bounds... My good friends over many years.....those who were more capable than I, have walked the political boundaries of this place. When trekking there one must be physically fit. It is a deceiving land full of predators, some which will come right after a human. Rattler Snakes still wander around through the cooler temperatures...and lay in the sun warming their bodies by what is left of the suns good rays. Coyotes will play at night year around. I hear their cries...the pups come later with a joyous sound. All i swell. We are warm inside now, warmed by our good memories of life in the great vast wilderness. When we turn our covers for sleep, darkness grows soon and the chill reminds us...this is now all that is left of the years summer and Autumn. IT arrives...

Hello Bob,
nice to see autumn landscape - I like this season. I like time when everything is gold and it is warm enough.
Your picture is well coloured, with beautiful sky

Hi Bob!

It's good to hear that you are warm inside now and ready to face the winter. And if the warmth is all spread out in our mind we will discover how beautiful the winter can be... and how this season also is capable to give us warmth, although our body can feel the cold. It's fianlly this duality that makes this season so full of interest.

Looking at your picture, I imagine that you have made the full stock of warmth. The soft autumnal colors certainly helped you for that.

Kind regards

Markus

Beautiful landscape.Very nice colors and nice composition.

serene tranquility of living nature, slowly this landscape will be frozen to death. Barren insipid silence shall reign upon this scene ... sorry am I being much too romatic? :) I haven't seen your place yet, but was trying to visuallize thru the lenses of hollywood has produced to gloss over.

Hello Bob,
This is a beauty!
Wonderful colours all over the frame, from sky to the dry grass...
Hopefully you can enjoy this a bit more, but even if there is no snow the leaves will probably go soon anyway...
A well composed presentation!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Marvelous composition...love the curve of the dead tree in the foreground and the focal point created by the skyline.
Very beautiful colors!

Hi Bob, splendid composition with superb autumnal colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob,

When I looked at this the first thing that sprung to mind was 18th century soldiers marching from battle - must be the colours of the trees in the background and the burned out browns n the foreground. Certainly you get a sence of movement in time - as one season brings end end so some things, it also brings life to others, and so on, and so on, as the seasons roll on. Very effective picture.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Bob

End of autumn or not, this is a great picture one more than one level.
This lonely tree you have here is very interesting and makes a great subject. It also gives you a terrific contrast with that impressive BG you managed to get here. All those trees from the back are outstadning in color and very eye pleasing.
That aside, the sharpnes of the picture is good, the DOF is very nice and the composition - with the excellent inclusion of the charming clouds and sky - is terrific.
Well done!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Bob,

There's no autumn here and winter (if one can call it that) is a long way off. At least we didn't need air-conditioning this week. I'll miss your autumn scenes but I know they will be followed by plenty of snow scenes. I just love the curved bare tree in this shot. Beautiful picture with the greens and oranges.
