I still have a lot of work and very little time for treknature :-( This time an iceberg shot. My first iceberg shot on TN. I hope you like it.

An Iceberg is a floating mass of freshwater ice that has broken from the seaward end of a glacier or a polar ice sheet. Icebergs are typically found in open seas, especially around Greenland and Antarctica.

Icebergs of the Antarctic not only are far more abundant but are of enormous dimensions compared with those in the Arctic. Ninety-three percent of the world's mass of icebergs is found surrounding the Antarctic.

Usually 1/8th of an iceberg is above the waterline. That part consists of snow, which is not very compact. The ice in the cold core is very compact (and thus relatively heavy) and keeps 7/8ths of the iceberg under water. The temperature in the core is constant: between -15 and -20 degr. Centigrade. An iceberg that has tumbled over several times, has lost is light snow layers and so the iceberg gets relatively heavier then before (with the snow) and because of the greater compactness, only 1/10th rises above the surface.

Iceberg shapes

TABULAR: An iceberg with steep sides and flat top having a length-to-height ratio greater than 5:1. Many show horizontal banding.

NON-TABULAR: Describes all icebergs that are not tabular shaped as described above. This category is further subdivided to include the specific shapes described below. If no other description applies, the iceberg is simply referred to as a non-tabular.

WEDGE: An iceberg having a steep vertical side on one end and sloping on the other

DRY-DOCK: An iceberg that has eroded so a slot or channel is fordem

BLOCKY: An iceberg with a flat top and steep vertical sides

Coż za znajome miejsce i znajoma góra lodowa :)
Super kompozycja i kolory. Bardzo fajnie widać górę na tla wyspy. Nie jest ani prześwietlona ani niedoświetlona - a z tym jest zawsze problem.
Interesująca notka dobrze uzupełnia całość.
Pozdrawiam

Hi Chris,
Another very stuning photo from the deep south. The texture in the iceberg is really amzing. I like the two brown lines in the iceberg since it shows some kind of sediment. The BG of the iceberg is wonderful as well. Especially the lighter spot in front of the mountain.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Chris,
WOW! The contrast on white colours and shades are simply EXCELLENT!!!
Very beautiful and fine details on this iceberg! Did you see the Titanic ghost near it? :-)
Thanks,

Hi Krzysztof

While time is not on your side here, your experience, travels and lovely shots taken are, giving you the opportunity to present us all sorts of cool things ;)
This iceberg is terrific and a really rare sight here on TN.
I really like the cold feel of the entire shot here as well as the sharpness throughout the entire frame.
Exceptional note, too, which makes an interesting read for me:)

Bravo and TFS

Hello Krzysztof,
Amazing iceberg you've captured here in an almost torquoise colour. Fascinating shape and the composition is superb with the background in contrasting colour and the blue sky. Interesting note too.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hej,
Piekne to zdjecie. Ladnie (choc nieco statycznie) zakomponowane. Swietnie naswietlone, przepiekne odcienie blekitu. Prawdziwa kraina krolowej sniegu. Fajnie byloby dac jeszcze jakies zblizenia tej gory :-)
Serdecznosci,

Fantastic colors and light, wonderful composition and detail. Thanks for sharong

Hi Krzysztof,

An amazing picture, and you have managed to put across the sheer size of this thing so well. It contrasts really well against the landmass in the background. Not an easy one to get right. Well done.

Kind regards,

Mike

You know...I have heard the word iceberg many times in the last say 50 years..and I have heard folks talk about them..but I don't think I ever went past the point of the Titanic tragedy with my knowledge or lack thereof..of just what they were and how they came about. you have just given a detailed short course with pictures you took yourself. Now that is about as cool as it gets...Thanks much for enlightening me...it was a pleasure.

Hello Krzysztof

A lovely shot of this iceberg .The range of blue colours in the shot is very good. The blue sky is fantastic and the blue of the ice looks natural compared to the white of the snow behind it.Very well composed with sharp details and focus.TFS

Hi!

I like your pictures especially for the colors and the composition. The first reflect the antarctic reality very well, the latter introduces us perfectly well into the picture with a neutral foreground. It's a beautiful landscape picture.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Krzysztof,
Wonderful shot again from beautiful Antartica. You surely have presented this icy land in all its glory and I have enjoyed watching each one with much interest. I like the colours shades here and the soft lighting. It must be great to see an iceberg from so close. Excellent POV to portray this charming scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Krzysztof.
I like your terrific shot of iceberg. It is wonderful (I mean the iceberg). DOF is outstanding as well as the razor sharpness and crisp details. I also like sunlight spots and shadows of cloudy sky, amazing set of pictured object on the BG, fine reflection of the little waves of the sea. My best wishes and TFS. Well done.
