Indeed a very unusual pose from this lovely goldfinch, very well captured here by you.
Needless to say, timing here is probably the essential element that makes this picture special. Your quick reaction in catching this pose is remarkable.
That aside, the usual impeccable clarity and spot-on exposure definitely apply here, too. Very beautiful colors and a charming uniform BG also add to the beauty of the shot.
I can't help wonderring how would a vertical compo look like here, with more roon downwards, in the direction teh goldfinch is lookin... :)
Anyway, it's a wonderful job!

Fantastic colours in this photo. Great pose of the bird and very good sharpness and BG. Personally, the frame is too big for me. It would be perfect when there was more space on the bottom of the photo. But superb photo!

Great timing snapping this photograph! Reddish browns in background and tree stump give her plumage a nice contrast and a sense of the season. I like how she (he?) and her perch are perfectly in focus. Well done!
