Day 19.(19/20).
Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Spotted this one in a tree; thought I might be a Burchell's starling as these are quite common and have the same vivid bluish colour. Then I saw it was something completely different...

Hi Annick,
a wonderful image of this fabulous lizard!
The POV is just superb!
That blue is so vibrent and vivid. Beautiful colours that are very striking.
Amazing sharpness, detail and clarity. I can almost feel the roughness of those spiky scales.
Perfect composition.
Superb DOF and BG that causes the lizard to stand out even more.
Striking contrast.
--- Nothing :)
Very well done.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Annick,
Just to say how good I think the pose caught is.
The vivid blue tone of its skin really stands out of the image.
A great composition!
Congratulations and thanks to post it.

JM

Hi Annick

In Afrikaans we call this the "Bloukopkoggelmander" and its distribution range stretch as far down south to Zululand (where I live). I regularly have the privilege to see one of these in my garden.

There seem to be quite a bit of confusion when searching the Internet for information on this reptile though. For example, when reviewing the English common name, you might find descriptions such as:- Blueheaded Southern Tree Agama, Blue Headed Tree Agama, Southern Tree Agama, Tree Agama, Blue-throated Agama, etc. As if this does not provide enough bewilderment the genus/species names also present quite a variety of results such as:- Acanthocercus atricollis, Acanthocerus atricollis, Acanthocecerus atricollis, Acanthocercus atricollis atricollis, and an apparent older classification has it as Agama atricollis.

After all this mystification it seems like you can pretty much settle for Southern Tree Agama (Source) - Acanthocercus atricollis (Source) and just for positive visual identification you can refer to this link.

A splendid capture with perfect sharp details, amazing lighting, great DOF & BG, and excellent breeding colours presented by this lovely specimen.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Annick,
It has wonderful colors, nice to see all those tones of blue. Catchlight in the eye, the background, focus, sharpness, lighting, POV and composition are very good. Well done and TFS

Hi Annick,
Beautiful colours on this ugly little animal. I like the pose and the eye contact.
Again, well done.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Annick,

This looks a little like the lizards I used to see on trees when I lived in Zambia, although these ones spat - I was terrified of them. I love the detail you hhave captured and the colourful scales show up really well. Nice eye contact and perfect pov.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Annick,
This is looking great. The bokeh is excellent and highlighting on Agama. I like the sharp and crisp colours of the Agama. Your POV is excellent. Good to see that it is watching you or your camera's blinking AF light (I think).
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Annick

Hahh...you know me and reptiles :) I envy you again, my friend :p
Look at this fantastic vivid colors!!! How can somebody not be fascinated by this?!? I really like agamas although i've only seen one in one of my trips in the US, of course, in an encloser. I never had the opportunity to go somewhere and find one in the wild.
You did, and you took great advantage of it and took this smashing shot!
Not only is the agama superbly presented - with terrific sharpness and having used a perfect DOF - but also in a great pose and composed so nicely.

Bravo, my friend and TFS
