Well known backyard creatures:

This is the female of the Blacktailed longhorn beetle (Coleoptera; Cerambycidae; Strangalia melanura; Gemeiner Schmalbock)
peeping through a hole in a Geranium pratense flower. The beetle is about 7-9 mm long. The female can be told by the black middle line on the elytrae, widening towards the end.

Technical stuff: Konica Minolta Dynax 7D, Macro lens 100 mm; macro double flash with dispersers; monopd; 1/125 se; f/25, sunlight.
I had to treat the RAW picture for blemishes and a missing claw. The rest was as usual.

Ciao Dietrich,

Hi Dietrich.
I am amazed with beautifulness of the pictured scene and skill of reproduction. Terrific use of flash and sunlight,. DOF is my favorite and stunning. Details, sharpness, pleasantness and delicateness of the light and colours are fantastic. Bravo, my friend. Excellent refined work.
Alexei.

Bonjour,
Joli contrate entre l'insecte et la fleur.
Bonne journée.

You always have beautiful, delicate pictures. The flower is past it's prime, guess the beetle choses where to pose! I never saw a beetle like that before! So very good! The hole is funny, I laughed at the title! I needed a laugh. He looks nosey!

Great image of this Longhorn Dietrich, and all the appendage's are in @ F/25..
Nice color, detail, and I kinda like the shadow cast with the flash...call me strange ;)
Happy Holidays,
Howard

Hallo Dietrich
I just love the colour purple! Anything purple draw my attention and Trek Nature is a new adventure to me, so it is so difficult to pull myself away from the computer screen. There are just so many talented photographers on the site and they all have such spectacular portfolios. I came across this lovely “Peeping Tom” in your gallery, and although it is not one of your most recent postings decided to give my smiley to this photo. This photo have so much character to it, and your title is most appropriate to the sight you have captured. It really look as if it is peeping through the hole in the leave. Although the flower looks a bit spoiled and seen better days it still remains purple and that will always be an advantage in my point of view. The beetles features are good, and I in particular like the tentacles. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
