It is the second largest feline in the world, after Tiger. Life expectancy in the wild is exemplary: 12 years for males and 16 for females, while in captivity often are copies over 20 years. In ancient times, the lion could be found in much of Africa, Asia and Europe, but now they can be found only in parts of Africa and India. These felines prefer to dwell in warm places.

The male lion, known for his hair, has a weight range of between 145 and 251 kg, while the females, smaller, with a weight of 110-181 kg with an average weight of about 140 kg in leonas the Masai. The weight of the lion is highly variable, depending on the subspecies; an example of this are the South African male lions, which can weigh up to 251 kilograms, while the Asian lions rarely exceed 190 kg, there is even a population of lions Masai in which males rarely exceed 170 kg.
