Ramon Crater is a spectacular geological feature of Israel's Negev desert. Ramon Crater is actually an erosion cirque (not an impact meteor crater). It measures 40 km long and up to 9km width, shaped like a thick horn. The only settlement in the area, the small town of Mitzpe Ramon, located on the northern edge of the crater and functions as a tourism base forward the crater.
Ramon Crater is like a window to the geological past of the area. The crater is 400m deep, and encompasses a diversity of rocks with fantastic colors and forms. Impressive mountains rise at the borders of the crater.
The crater is rich of fossils and famous with it's well preserved fossil trees and Ammonites.
Ramon Crater is carrying a wealthy ecological system.

This photo has taken from the north-east rim of the crater. It shows a crosscut, about 6km of the crater width.
