Hello,

This is from very near to the spot from which my last post was taken from. This particular area here at Linford Bottom is a broad shallow valley, with a strip of deciduous woodland and open grasses running along the middle flanked on either side by natural coniferous woodland.
I know every nook and cranny of this place, where all the interesting trees stand and where the hidden pools of water lurk deep in the woods. It's one of those special places we all have and I never tire of coming to.

Some basic facts of how big the New Forest is and what it actually consists of:

Status: Designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

Area (ha) 29262.36

Bogs. Marshes. Water fringed vegetation. Fens (7%)
Heath. Scrub. Maquis and garrigue. Phygrana (34%)
Dry grassland. Steppes (10%)
Humid grassland. Mesophile grassland (3%)
Broad-leaved deciduous woodland (29%)
Coniferous woodland (17%)

This is a managed landscape really, even though it still has some very old parts to it. Man has changed this environment drastically over the years, through the narrowing of streams to drain the wetlands, grazing cattle and the felling of many Oaks to help build the British Navy. Alot of Timber is grown here too, which offers very little in the way of habitat for wildlife unfortunately.
Thankfully now through conservation work, rivers are being restored to their natural courses, slowing their flow and allowing habitats to return in the meanders and bends. There's even some talk recently of reintroducing Beavers, which i would love to see provided it is managed properly.

Thanks for looking..

Hello Paul,
A well balanced composition!
The frosty atmosphere comes well through, interesting light and it most likely looks colder than it is...
Attractive colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonjour Paul,

Bravo pour cette belle composition.L'endroit est vraiment magnifique et l'ambiance est magique.
Merci et bonne année.
Joseph

I see the polarizer is still on that lens : ) I like the simplicity of the composition with the angles on either side and the tree off center. The color is interesting; warm on one side and cool on the other.

Hello Paul,
I know of what you speak, I to have places I feel I know better then anyone and places that I like to think I'm the only one that knows of it. These are special, and this fine landscape and your notes causes a delightful memory to return.

Hello Paul

The sky is brilliant in this shot.I really like the vivid colours.
Nicely composed, the shot has an excellent POV and point of perspective.
The focus is sharp with fantastic clarity.
I think Jack Frost has added a little bit of his own artistry to the scene.

Still me,
this one is just great
bravo
*** sorry for the comment in french but my english is realy so bad***

Hi Paul.

I really do miss being able to get out when I want to and be able to get shots like this. You have caught this one beautifully. I love the play with light as well, from nearly B&W on the right to full colour on the left.

TFS and Happy New Year.
Emma
PS maybe when I am back on my feet after my op we can seriously try to meet up?

Hi again Paul, great winter composition with splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Paul.
Every your shot is true masterpiece. I watch then with great pleasure. Subject, POV, amazing colour palette and details are great. Is the coloration of the sky the result of polarization filter use? My compliments and best wishes in stared 2008 year.
Alexei.
