The feather of a hawk which was left, just as is pictured, on the front step of my wilderness cabin. This symbolic feather has some history...and it lays among needles from the Tamarack Trees which were so prolific on my property. And then the added hoar frost which made little pointy needles of ice in the home grown spruce tree which was used by an old hippie who cut the wood for this porch with an Alaskan Mill....which is a contraption one adds to a chain saw in order to make rough boards in an attempt to do things as close to the old fashioned ways as possible. But I hasten to add that when we built our first cabin we used mauls, axes and special hand tools to cut roof shingles...no chain saws...everything was carved and made by hand including the peeling of bark with "draw knives"...It all sounds foreign to me now as it was coming on 20 years ago...I was so at home in my wilderness...I felt as I could do anything...

If you are a US Citizen and would like to keep a feather , I would do so outside, in a very natural place where it has free roam, BECAUSE bringing it indoors and taking possession of it, would be illegal. If you're in Canada, your laws are different.

Sharing a moment with them, perhaps in a dream, they have watched the hawk flying far above and thought of my visits to them as the hawk circles far above so very slow. Do not be afraid but ride with the hawk high above to look down on the land and perhaps you shall learn something of yourself that you did not know up high in the sky.... Andrew Stinson/HawkFlying

Hi Bob,
I like the soft color-scheme, the little details..
Looks very artistic and poetic. Nice note
Well done and TFS

What an artistic composition, though I can't figure out what that circular hole is, Bob. Still, it complements the feather in every way and is an integral part of this fine composition.
Best regards and take care.

Very artistic shot Bob!
The simplicity of the composition is superb yet the photo is still powerful.
A lot of interest in the photo with the knot-hole, feather and needles.
Lovely soft lighting and colours.
Excellent work!
Well done,
Joe

Interesting image Bob,
One that made me take a hard look until I read your note and realised the upper 'bull's eye' is a knot hole edged with ice crystals and the hawk's feather makes a fine compliment to it. The resulting arrangement makes a nice abstact. That's a good law preventing folks take natural objects indoors. We in Sweden are only prohibited in taking things from nature reserves.
Thanks, Bob,
Ivan

hello bob,
the 1.5 megapixel has given good results, liked the artistic composition and nice notes,
tfs & regards

Hello Bob,
This image really stands out on its own merit with the feathers and pine needles, the frozen backdrop of the Cedar plank has great coloring to a frozen scene. Very soft and detailed image depicting life in the wilderness...

Hi Bob.
Amazing and touching note and very nice, full of content picture (and subject). Despite the 1.5 Mp the quality of the shot is perfect. However it is not a point. The key point is content. My compliments and thanks.
Alexei.

Hi Bob,

A very interesting post - both the picture and the notes. Bringing a feather from a hawk indoors is against the law??? A very creative shot with lovely colors and good details.

Hi Bob,

Nice composition with lovely pastel colours and as we read your notes we discover more and more in this image. Well done!

Lise

Hi Bob,

I never seen loose feathers of a hawk among the needles of a tamarack tree. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the feathers and needles. The photo is also well framed. Thanks for sharing.

Great story Bob ! Well done on the composition and technique ! Thanks, very surprising result at 1.5 megapixels !!

Mario

hello Bob

your only 1.5 Megapixel image is like a painting,
you did a artistic composition with the softness
in the details and the colours, and you framed
very well everything of the image, in the bottom
the pine needles, in the up of the image the frozen water
and in the middle the feather, TFS (for the great notes too)

Hello My Friend,
Bob this image looks just like a painting, it's beautiful. The frost in the knot hole looks as if you either had someone living under your step or some form of moist heat was inside. Fantastic image and words my friend, thanks.
Rick

I do like the colors in this image and the various elements are really nice. Interesting note too.

Evelynn

Namastay Bob,
A lovely capture of this feather of eagle and the wood knot with ice crystals. The composition is excellent so as the colors. Good notes as always. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
Haraprasan

I am amazed at laws like the feather law...oh well, what can I say. ha ha
I wonder how difficult entry into the feather squad of law enforcement is.

Lovely shot - wonderfully creative and unusual...a thought as much as a photo. :)

Hi Bob, elegant nice composition with lonely feather, I like delicate colors, you are a great artist my friend! very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob, strange to say but everything in this picture is so "quiet", there's a feeling of eternity into it. I love that you left the blue tint of the shadows in it, it gives it a sense of mystery. The feather looks like the hole with frost and the sparse needle frame this beautiful composition. You too, like Evelynn, are painting with colours. Which is something I read in a book about what photography is all about... thank you once more,

Francine

Hi Bob,

I really like this one - it's one of the most artistic shots I've seen on TN. The feather works really well as the main ssubject, and an artist could have sat for hours arranging the needles, but nature did the job for you. I think it's the textures and colours that really give this shot its mood. Very, very well spotted.

Mike

Hello Bob !
I like his kind of pictures, very simple but very beautiful. This little feather on the water, among the needles, is wonderful - I don't know why, it also makes me feel a bit sad - maybe because it looks abandoned... I liked reading your note. I understand what you say when you explain how you loved your wilderness. it is excatly the same for me - I could spend days and days in the forests, even if they are only small forests and not so wild anymore, now. Anyways, I like your picture very much. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Bob
Very artistic shot! Little softnes here looks fine. Nice blue and gray color tones
I like it very much
