I took this picture at Bogor Botnical garden.
Sir Stamford Raffles added the 6 couple of silver-dotted antelopes in the garden. They came from border district of Nepal and India.
Axis axis is an introduced species of deer from India. It has historically been introduced to various locations because of its desirable qualities as a game species. When herd populations become too large they impact local vegetation and increase erosion. They also forage on a variety of vegetation removing food sources for many native species and domestic cattle. They also carry transmissible diseases and pose an increased threat to human safety in and around highway corridors. Axis axis are found almost exclusively at lower elevations (below ~ 1000m) throughout dry and mixed deciduous forest habitat and secondary forest lands broken by glades, with an understorey of grasses, forbs and tender shoots which supply adequate drinking water and shade. |

Hello Boedy !
This is a wonderful picture of a wonderful animal ! Excellent sharpness and details, nice natural colors, beautiful composition and POV, and I also like the pose of the Axis. It is also strange, because in my country only the babies have white spots, and here the adults have them too. His horns are very impressive. very well done !
Valerie.
Very nice axis stag example, his antlers are very well developed. Do axis grow in the wild in Jawa? I was there and the only "rusa" I remember is as the small kijang and the sambar deer. The diagonal line cutting across is a small annoyance to the rest of your image. I will be moving to Indonesia in a month (Bali) and I have a question, what is the best park to see animals in Jawa? How about other islands?
