[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Shot today out at Maori Bay which is just below the gannet colony. This juvenile seemed to be pretty hungry and making a lot of noise. Caught mid song with a 300mm lens, 1.4 TC all mounted on a monopod.

White-fronted Tern
Sterna striata

Endemic and fully protected. Size between the Caspian and Black-fronted Terns, with deeply forked light grey tail, large black cap and white stripe on the forehead. Young birds have a mottled cap with the back and wings barred with black stripes. Found throughout NZ mainly on the coast. Many juveniles cross the Tasman and spend at least their first winter on the East Australian coast. They feed mainly on shoaling small fish by plunge diving from the air. Breeding is from October to January, and nest on bare rock or a scrape in sand or shingle, sometimes of grasses, twigs and ice-plant. They are seen in colonies of a few to several hundred and are often associated with Red-billed Gulls. The eggs, 1-2, are variable light stone, green or brown with small scattered dark and light brown blotches.

I hope it's for a longer period this time...

This is a very beautiful fresh photo from you!
I remember that gannet colony well from your pictures (both from the ones with the gannet pairs or in-flights and from that lovely panorama)...it really is a fantastic place.
This portrait is superb and it presents this White-fronted Tern kid with lots of sharp details and in a great pose. The exposure probably was a bit tricky here because of the big natural contrast, but you handled it superbly, bringing out a spot-on image.

Although the scene is very contrasty you managed not too overexpose the bird. I like natural colors of the bird and the bird itself.
One more thing...could the title be any funnier?
