hello angelina,
nice capture , i liked the composition and the eye contact, if you were using a tripod in low light you should have gone for slow shutter speed, i use 1/250 in handheld conditions, reducing the shutter speeding and opting for small aperture may have yielded better results, all said & done i still havent taken a single decent bird shot,
tfs & regards

Hi Angy,
Always nice to see Senor Rojas. A nice shot with a good twinkle in his eye. I like the pose on the leafless tree with the perfect blue sky in the background.

Hello Angelina,
This is a fine composition showing the bright Cardinal in a lovely pose. The colours are beautiful and I like the background but it is hard to focus when there are lots of twigs around. I wonder if you've cropped this heavily to get closer? That also reduced sharpness. Anyway, not too bad at all!!
TFS and all the best, Ulla

HI Angelina.
Seems you are doing ok with the lens to me.I like the fact you can get closer to Senor Rojo now.
One thing you shouod try is set your ISO over 100. I would try practice shots with 200 and 400 and see what gives you some better exposure with less light.
I know the answer would be 400, but there is more grain. I mainly use 200. Keep that lens on a tripod:):)

Hi Angelina,
I don't know this lens but I see that you used ISO 100 for this picture and you said that light was low. In this condition, you should try a higher ISO to be able to use a smaller aperture that will bring out more details. Also, I might suggest that you use a faster shutter speed for birds, especially during windy days. Anyway, even if the bird doesn’t seem to be moving, it always does. As I'm concern, it is very rare that I go under 1/320 and even, If I could, I'll be choosing 1/500 or even 1/640 or more for smaller birds.
This is a nice composition with natural exposure and colors and you caught nice catch-light. Oh, I was forgetting... I don't know if you do this but a tip is also to focus on the bird's eye, always as for other animals. When the eye is focused, generally the picture will come out well :) Hope this helped :)

Hi Angelina,
I like your little fellow and you are correct about the softness you have in his photo. With poor light you can do one of two things or both. The first thing that I would try is increasing your camera's iso setting and use a value like iso 400 as that will make the camera's sensor more light sensitive and it allows for faster shooting as well.If the aperture could be made at a more open setting that to would bring better results but the only way to do that is to zoom out,not good for details, however.Playing with your iso settings is really about all you can do but as you know the higher the iso the more noise there might be in your photo and then you can get away with a higher number f-stop for added dof.I hope this note is of some use to you. Thanks for yet another lovely shot of your red coloured friend. Bob

Hi Angelina,
This is an extremely handsome bird you have posted today. What brilliant colors!
I think Claudine makes a lot of sense about using your 70-300mm effectively in various light conditions.
I too have not been able to master my Sigma 70-300mm yet.
TFS and regards,
Ram

A lovely handsome colourful bird. It is great to see birds on TN that we dont see in Australia. I enjoyed visiting your gallery and also reading the critiques on this photo to help with the focus. There is so much to learn to get nicely focussed and sharp photos!

I love the colors in this photo -- light-blue sky, subtle brown tones of the tree, and the stunning boldness of the Cardinal. I like how you have composed this image.
