This gorgeous fellow lives in Lamington National Park, alongside a stunning variety of bird species who live in this very special region of Queensland.
Australian King Parrot's (Alisterus scapularis) are very striking birds. The males have bright red heads, bellies and undersides, green wings and tail and blue lower backs. The females are similiar in appearance but have a green head and breast. There are other subtle differences in the eyes and beaks, but they are both just beautiful birds.
They are endemic to eastern Australia, where they are found in heavily vegetated upland regions, eucalyptus woodlands and coastal areas often adjacent to subtropical and temperate rainforest.
This guy had this cheeky look on his face as if he was actually saying 'Cheese' - he certainly wasnt camera shy, and I was standing only about a metre away. |

Hi Janina, A very good clean and crisp photograph of this King Parrot, my favorite. We get one in the back yard occasionally but i never have the camera ready and it flies away quickly. A friend has a feeding tray at his place and they visit more often there. Welcome to TN. TFS. Murray.
PS, Some say it is good to off-set the subject a little.
