"We do not know our own souls, let alone the souls of others.
Human beings do not go hand in hand the whole stretch of the way.
There is a virgin forest in each; a snowfield where even the
print of birds' feet is unknown.
Here we go alone, and like it better so. "
-Virginia Woolf

The location I am standing is at elevation 3200 feet on a
primitive dirt road heading down and east towards a valley. You
can see across the narrow valley to the next set of mountains
which are now called generally the Colville National Forest.
Rarely though are any US forest Service people seen there with
some exception as to once a year animal count, which is a vague
number come upon by a very short visit of a few hours.
At the top ridge it is approximately 5700 (1737.36 m) feet, still snow
covered and coming to a point where the tree line ends, again
with some exception.
Many of these mountains are not on USGS topographical maps but
are represented by 50 year old fly overs. GeoEarth does have some
nice views of the area.
In the area from where I stand, to the top there are only a two
dwellers. The first is a man and wife who grow organic vegetables.
The second is a man who was diagnosed as severely schizophrenic. He has
lived alone in the woods for 20 years now and rarely comes down. And
in between those two, we had our remote cabin with 7 children. The cabin
remains there. We do not.

On the map the top pf the mountain you are looking at is east or to
the right of the town of Malo, about 1/3rd of the way to Orient.

Hi Bob,
Splendid landscape to look at!
I like a lot the way you managed to build the composition with the ascending pines to the right and the snowy hills at he back.
The huge view and your text invites to reflect.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Hello Bob,

Great pov looking down over this magnificent mountainscape! The rule of three works well here, with the darkest part is in the f/g receding to the very lightest part in the b/g.
It looks wild and beautiful! No wonder you miss it so!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Bob,

A beautiful scene. I love the wonderful pine trees in the foreground. The mountain partially covered with snow is striking. I cannot imagine living there as much as I enjoy seeing it.

Jane

You are so lucky to have this literally on your doorstep!
You could spend hours and hours out here and not see a single soul.
I love the three layers of this shot: Conifer forest, barren rocky land, snow covered mountain top.
Superb composition.
Magnificent range of colours.
Excellent image quality.
Great work Mr. Shannon.

Hello my friend Bob, I am interpelled by the town of Malo! Nice to see it on the map. There is a St-Malo here in Quebec, too, down south, very close to the US. When I look at such a view, I breath. I am sure that eagles love those places because they breathe, there is room and space all around. Ironically, oxygen is scarce at high altitude! Yet, this is a beautiful place, your wilderness is fantastic. Are you still going to the cabin, sometimes? I love the composition here, with the trees at the foreground, just before the far away mountains. And the excerpt of Virginia Wolf is touching. Thank you!

Francine

Hi Bob,

This is an impressive nature scenery. The point of view is giving depth to the photo. It is receiving a good luminosity which brings out the colors. The picture is clear and precise. Well done, have a nice day.

Pierre

Wonderful use again of dark and light.
Love the depth you create with your foreground. Well done!

(Tell you "well done" is like telling Shaq "good game" ha ha)
