Leaf Butterfly(Kallima inachus) is a striking butterfly with both peculiar wing shapes and wing markings. Japan is the northernmost limit of its range, and the distribution is confined to southern islands belong to Kagoshima pref. and Okinawa pref.
In Okinawa-jima it can be seen almost throughout a year, abundunt from June to October.
I took this shot in northern Okinawa-jima where I was able to observe several male adult butterflies along the forest roadside. Male butterflies always perch on some spot and await females.
This butterfly seldom visit flowers, usually seeks for rotten fruits or tree sap. |
