Andy,
Very nice shot of this (Redtail) I believe. You were fortunate it let you get this close. Only suggestion would be to try and sharpen just a tad.
I tried all last year to get a shot of a partial albino Redtail that had been hanging around our area. It wouldn't let me get near it so all I ever got was one half ways decent shot.

They will let people get close if they are in rural areas. Depends on your approach. It is fortunate for you.
Not sure of your camera settings...if it was on an auto setting, but when taking these into sky and high trees, it is nice to adjust it manually to try and get the subject with more light.
I run into this quite a bit, and keep practicing the exposures and compensations.

Nice shot Andy, I agree they are very hard to get close to. Your new camera will allow you to get a much clearer shot.
