Cyrtopodion (Mediodactylus) kotschyi fitzingeri (Fitzinger’s Gecko)#2&3

The species’s range extends from S Italy and Greece to Aegean islands, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Israel, NW Iran and the Transcaucasus region; with a vertical distribution to 2500 m. The useful and comprehensive information on this gecko species was given by me in TN with another capture of a different subspecies.

In Cyprus, this species is represented with the endemic subspecies Cyrtopodion kotschyi fitzingeri, It has typically two longitudinal, enlarged-smooth medial scale rows under the tail.. It inhabits rocky-stony places with scanty vegetation, also seen on stone walls and buildings. Partly nocturnal, but also forages in daytime. Feeds on insects and spiders. Can change colour in accordance with the illumination state of the environment. In my previous posting, you can see “the mountain form” from Cyprus as being has a dark gray and blackish coloration. Now, in my today posting, you can see “the house form” has a light gray coloration with indistinct zigzagging transverse stripes and more distinct keeled dorsal tubercles. I also posted a portrait of this lovely animal as WS. I hope you will like that WS version. In Cyprus, local people call this species and also Turkish Gecko as "Mişaro" (in Turk. Ince Parmakli Keler).

And finally, I would like to dedicate these captures to our friend in TN, Chris Chafer (sandpiper2) from Australia who is also an admirer of geckos for his kind interest my herpetological captures! Thank you Chris!

Good macro, but not up to your usual standards Bayram, the last part of the tail is almost lost in the glare of the substratum (our woodwork is not up to par this time!). But I'm sure Chris would like this lovely gecko.

Hi Bayram
Another great shot from Cyprus. I already told you that I like geckos ;-) Good sharpness, nice contrast and as always a very informative note
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Bayram

Thanks for the dedication, you're too kind. But you certaily picked a good one for me, I do like spiny-tailed geckos. Both shots are good but I like the main shot best. Well composed with good sharpness. I was dissapointed that on my recent trip to central America we only saw one gecko and I could n't get any shots of him.

Chris

WEL YO ARE RIGHT , ONE COULD GET O BE FRIENDS QITH THESE CHAPS, BUT PROBABLY ONLY WITH THESE RATHER BENIGN CHARACTERS!!

Hello Bayram,
Excellent capture of anopther specimen of the Cypriotic ssp of Fitzinger's Gecko. Looks like a younger individual than the previous one. The spikey scales are well shown and the WS portrait gives us a good view of the typical gecko eye with the vertical pupil.
Thanks for sharing these fine images,
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Bayram,
A nice capture of this spiny gecko. Excellent sharp details and a fine composition. A very good dedication. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Ciao Bayram,
molto belle tutte e due le foto, questa e il ritratto in Workshop.
Incredibile come varia la colorazione fra questa forma e quella, più scura, montana.
Grazie e buona domenica,
Marcello

Hi Bayram,

How many different geckos are there? Another wonderful presentation with natural colors and excellent details.

Jane
