Owl's Clover: Castilleja exserta

This wildflower is common to arid and desert regions in the western United States. It grows above 1500 feet and creates lush green expanses in the open desert. It gets up to 8 inches tall in good years.

Picture taken in White Tank Mountain Regional Park west of Phoenix in the Sonoran desert of southern Arizona.

Hi Steve,

A very pretty flower - one that I have not seen here. I wonder how long they blossom. Some of these desert plants are here today and gone tomorrow. Colors are beautiful - I love the different shades of violet with the yellow.

Hi Steve
Wow, this is a bright coloured wildflower. The yellow fringe is a nice contrast to the fushia pink base.

Hi Steve,
this is a pretty flower - and it is no where like a grass clover?
Such brilliant flowers, I love the colours.
I'd love to see a field like this with them growing.

Ena

The sharpness and color are really nice Steve. The separation between foreground and background are great.

The close-in view on this is very fine and the colour of blue/violet among my favorites....then on to deeper purple and bang..into yellow...the kind of flora that grabs headlines....very nicely done...I was once written up in a paper nearby the one you worked...just ask:-) Me of course...it was VERY old...in Lebanon, OR...

Hi Davidson,
This is a wonderful series of desert wildflowers and I am enjoying each one of them. Fantastic colours and sharpness on these beautiful flowers and great handling of harsh natural light and exposure level. I like the natural surrounding and the OOF field full of these flowers. Must be a charming scene. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.
TFS.
