Photo from hippo and calve taken along the Kasinga channel
Hippopotamus amphibius
Large rotund animal with smooth naked skin, short, stocky legs and a massive, broad-muzzled head.
Mouth equipped with a impressive set of tusk-like canines and incisors.
Short, flattened tail is tipped with a tuff of black hair. Body colour greyish-black with pink tinge at the skin folds, around eyes and ears, while underparts are pinkish-grey.
Behaviour: This semi-aquatic mammal spends much of his day lying in water; it emerges at night to move to feeding-grounds.
Provoked ,it can be extremely dangerous, particularly solitary bulls and cows with calves.

Bonjour Albert,
C'est une excellente photo tout en tendresse de cette grosse maman et son petit. J'aime comment la photo est composée, les détails et l'exposition naturelle. J'ai vu un reportage dernièrement sur des attaques de ces animaux sur les humains, effectivement, quand il s'agit de voir à leur progéniture, ils deviennent extrêmement dangeureux. En afrique, ils s'en prenaient aux chasseurs qui les avaient blessés. Ce ne sont pas des animaux malins à priori mais vaut mieux ne pas les déranger dans leur habitat. Merci!

les hippopotames ne sont pas des animaux que j'aimes beaucoup
mais cette photo je l'ai quand-même ajouté dans
« my favorite African animal photos », parcontre ce que j'aimes
beaucoup beaucoup de cette photo c'est la tendresse
qu'il y a avec le bébé et sa Maman,

et bientôt je vais faire un autre thème « Plein de tendresse »
et cette photo sera encore une dans l'un de mes thèmes, TFS

Super shot Albert of mama hippo and calve. Wonderfully sharp and pleasing soft light. Nicely composed. Fine dedication to Annick. Tfs Richard

This is a brilliant capture of the mother Hippo with her baby, Albert.
The affection between the two comes out strongly in this well captured image. There is a bovine expression in the mother's eyes.
How massive she is is also illustrated by the size of the baby.

Hi Albert,
Wonderful shot of this gigantic Hippo mother with her kid wnjoying a swim. Very neat and sharp imge with nice colours and perfect natural light management. I like the way it is eyeing you and the natural habitat. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
