[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a male specimen of the Anatolian Rock Lizard, Anatololacerta anatolica (Werner, 1900) again from Izmir.
This species considered as a subspecies in the Lacerta genus (L. danfordi anatolica) for a long time. Recently, E. N. Arnold et al. (2007), published a paper about the Palaearctic and Oriental lizards and they presented a new genus, Anotololacerta. Also they included A. anatolica as a seperate species in this genus (with A. danfordi [Gunther, 1876]and A. oertzeni [Werner, 1904]).

Masseteric plate commonly absent or small. 8 ventralia generally. It has usually less than 20 femoral pores.

Colour of the dorsum varies from bluish-green to olive gray or light brown with small dark points and bigger light ocelles on it. Rarely, there are no points and other markings. In the breeding season, ventral of the head (gular) is reddish.

It distributes in the western Turkey and some neighbouring Aegean islands. Some authors include two subspecies: A. a. anatolica (northwestern Turkey), A. a. aegaea (western Turkey and Aegean islands). But this is not clear enough.

When I put my hand very slowly in front of him, he also put his front legs on my hand instead of going away. And I was touching kindly his gular. He seemed comfortable:) It was an unusual and very rare scene, I think. I feel lucky :)

Best wishes

A good capture of a fine male specimen Naşit, it is obvious from this take that to display the natural characteristics of a lizard adequately, you must sometimes "arrange" the photographing conditions without harming the "natural look" of the specimen, just like our colleague Dr. Bayram Göçmen somethimes does.
Cheers,
Mehmet
