I was just very excited being at Lake Nakura and happy photographing the flamingos. I didn't even see this herd of impalas, until they walked into my frame. It was one of the most memorable moments of my trip. They just strolled by, no predator, no rush, stopping for a drink. The late afternoon sun brightened their golden brown fur. I froze in awe by such beauty. At least I remembered to take a couple of photos, not as many as I like. A sight I will remember for a long time.

An impala (Aepyceros melampus Greek aipos "high" ceros "horn" + melas "black" pous "foot") is a medium-sized African antelope. The name impala comes from the Zulu language. They are found in savannas and thick bushveld in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, northern Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, southern Angola, northeastern South Africa and Uganda.
Average mass for an Impala is approximately 75 kilograms. They are reddish-brown in color with lighter flanks, have white underbellies and a characteristic "M" marking on its rear. Males have lyre-shaped horns which can reach up to 90 centimeters in length.

How lucky you were to catch this moment when the elegant Impalas walked by. They look wonderful with the pink Flamingoes beyond and against a fantastic background. Excellent focus, sharp details and lovely colours. The light is so beautiful and I like the many horizontal layers in the image. It looks very peaceful!

Great composition with excellent light Way. I like the rich colours and DOF.TFS

Wow you captured this extremely rare moment very well, there's just so much to this shot, but what I like is the layers of activity from the Impala to the mountains in the background, looks like you captured some birds in flight that would be easily visible in a larger image

Hello Way,
Fantastic capture, nice composition, superb colors and fantastic sharpness, great timing!

Hi Way,

Lake Nakuru is my dream. This is very nice shot. Harmony of atmosphere, colours, lightning. I like this a lot. Very well done. tfs. Stev

What a wonderful photograph Way. It is usually nice to have more than one species in an image but this one is especially nice. The light on those impalas is just super. It is only partly luck. You were in the right place with the right equipment and skill to take advantage of the good fortune. You captured a special moment.

Hello Way

Wow what a beautiful capture.
The lighting is amazing, and the composition is wonderful.
I really like the layers of the shot, and the horizontal lines established first by the impalas, then the flamingoes, water, shore, mountains and finally the sky.
Super colours and hues.
Stunning!

Hi Way!

first let me thank you for your words on my picure, it's really good to get encouragement on hard days!
Your composition is very good and unique in terms of color, it is devided into sections of brown blue and "flamingo" (that's a seperate color for me :) Even from a distance (or thumbnail) it draws the eye rightaway.
Then when you take the closer look you see a very rare and beautiful situation, I've no doubt you will remember this for long!
Both the flamingos and imapalas are exposed very well and show their natural true colors. Very peaceful scene, you are lucky to been there at this wonderful moment!
TFS

Have a nice weekend,
Andor

This one's a great shot Way. A herd and a flock in the same frame and both complimenting each other with the bright colors is just awesome. The bright and sharp impalas are very well captured.

Congratulations!!

Hi Way, the shot of the flamingos with their reflections would have been good alone, but to have these impalas walk into the frame really make this one great. The composition is fabulous. You've managed your depth of field well giving us good visibility of the impalas up front and the flamingos, while still providing some reasonable visibility into their surroundings. Colour is very good with excellent detail seen on the animals. A very small detail but an important one, is the inclusion too of those flying birds in the background, seen against the water and mountains. They help "complete" it, and lead your audience's eye to explore more of the shot.

Thanks, John

What a glorious image!

I love how the light works in this - the animals & birds being highlighted in a warm glow, while the background fades into a grey blue.

You're very lucky to have been there and had the opportunity to seize the moment!

Very Well Done.
