Hornbills (family Bucerotidae) are a group of birds characterized by a long, down-curved bill, sometimes with a casque on the upper mandible. Frequently, the bill is brightly coloured. It also can be founded at Sarawak, Malaysia. Many of the birds are now endangered. Some species of hornbill are a protected in Malaysia. Both the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill, "buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek. In addition, they possess a two-lobed kidney. Hornbills are the only birds in which the first two neck vertebrae (the axis and atlas) are fused together; this probably provides a more stable platform for carrying the bill.

Happy Easter.

Well Annick, that serious looking funny bird again, in a posture reminiscing some of our famous orators, full of hot air! On the other hand, your expertise is again evident in this perfect capture, the low POV included the whole bird, including the loong tail, within the vertical frame and the shallow DOF cleared much of the clutter in the BG while the critical focus rendered the plumage and the majestic beak in full detail. TFS indeed!

Hi Annick. Great close up of the unusual pose from the bird. good detail and colours. well done TFS.
Nick..

Have a nice Easter.

Hi Annick, another fabulous bird, it looks almost pre-historic...great capture and a fine composition. TFS

Hi Annick,
Details and sharpness are great in this shot. Colors are nice, too. I like the bird with it's mouth open, good timing.
The background is a bit agitated, but it shows the hornbill in a natural surrounding.

Well done
Tatjana

Wonderful and lovely shot of this Hornbill. Great composition. TFS and regards,

Well captured open beak. The curved bill and eye makes this one mean looking bird. Appropriate framing and DOF.

Hi Annick, lovely crying bird in great pose with fantastic details and splendid sharpness, very well done, Happy Easter, ciao Silvio

I love this. The placement of the bird and especially the open mouth is perfect. Besides being beautifully composed and exposed and sharp, it has so much "life" in it.
