Longing for Spring
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
To me this shot nicely represents the weather in the UK this year - lovely bright sunshine hinting at the arrival of spring, yet the trees and vegetation are still in winter mode, and there is a dappling of snow on the ground too - and believe me there was a biting cold wind too!
I managed to get an hour out to visit Otley Chevin forest park (just a few minutes from my home) - I wanted to play to see what effect I could get with my ND grad shooting vivid contrasty blue skies, and thought that this line of trees would make good subject matter - I deliberately wanted the sun to be obscured a little behind the tree to minimise the ghastly flare.
I went to an Ansel Adams exhibition in Edinburgh at the weekend, wow that was so inspring - such amazing quality...
Anyway I hope you like this shot - not quite Ansel Adams quality I know...!
Minimal post-processing - a little curves tweak to enhance the contrast, resize etc.
Thanks for looking. |

Hello Doug,
Well done on the direct backlight exposure, and the fine landscape is well depicted!
The naked trees stand out well on the blue spring sky, and soon the brownish ground will turn to green...
A well balanced composition!
Greetings,

Nice starburst. I try for them but rarely am successful. It is a difficult exposure directly into the sun, and you handled it well.

Hi Doug!
Your work with the grad filter worked out well, inspite going against the sun there's lot of details both in sky and land. No fringing on trees and just little flares. The colors are wonderful and the composition is splendid, TFS!
Best regards,
Andor
Hi ^^
I really like this photograph :D
I love the colours and I admire your skill, because I guess shooting towards the sun is not easy. I also really like how your background has 3 layers, connected by the trees in the foreground.
A lovely capture, keep up the good work ^^
Kind regards, Fleury
