The American Robin is in myth and legend a harbinger of spring. The prediction methods used by this bird are as vague as those of the Groundhog. With todays aviary educational institutes, birds are not being taught as well as past generations. This bird came way too early apparently. It was an image taken on March 30, 2008, well into spring and snowing quite hard. It looked very much confused and spent most of the day sitting in this one spot on a snowy maple tree. As per the Maple Tree, this one was not blooming as one not but 30 feet away from it. Perhaps this maple Tree knew better to bloom than its neighbor. So all of nature is interdependent and even though we ascribe wisdom in instinct to the animals, sometimes the Creator has surprises for not only us but for all of the natural kingdom.

Hey Bob,
this looks cold!
The little Robin has fluffed himself up to be as warm as possible on this fine spring day ;-)
I love the falling snow.
The red seed-pods are almost the same colour as the Robin and so balance out the photo.
Great composition.
I hope spring will arrive where you are soon!
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Bob,

The harbinger of spring surrounded by snow! Poor little robin redbreast must be freezing. The little red pods are perfect. Even your bird pictures have that Shannon look. Very nice.

I guess wildlife uses signs like light or some other mysteries to guide them through the seasons... the problem is not the surprise made by the Creator but I would say that it comes from the seasons themselves ;-)) they play tricks on everyone and everything and I bet even the "Creator" is amazed. Meanwhile, they say that poverty is mother of creativity and it shows well in your picture. The poor weather makes you do amazing shots like this one, almost black & white except for the chest and beak of the robin and buds on the branches that are orange as orange can be! It is beautiful, Bob, with the tiny snowflakes falling around the bird. You are the master of colours!

Francine

Hi Bob, You could say "the early bird catches the snowstorm" in this instance. Nicely done with fine POV. Looks good in the snowy branches. So bright. I've been enjoying seeing some Robin flocks and getting a few pics myself. Tfs Richard

Hi Bob

Lovely capture of the American Robin, nicely composed with a fine pose, lovely colours and I like the way the seed pods match the robins redbreast perfectly adding a nice touch to the image. I was laughing while I read your note as the Robin does look a bit fed up. I added it to my Robins of the World theme, there are loads of different ones but I don't think any are related.

Great splash of colour in this winter wonderland, the bright orange of the Robin's breast nicely echoed by the last of the maple keys in a superb composition. Looks like winter is having its last fling as it did with us a few days ago.
A very nice image, Bob, and thanks for sharing it!

Hi Bob,wonderfull!! I like a lot this pic,a red beauty in a snow's background,one of the best your pics,great!! My ebst compliments,Luciano

Hi Bob,
this past Friday I finally saw my first robin of 2008.Harbinger of Spring? Why soitenly! Why not as I look forward each year to seeing them back and singing sweetly in the trees when not pulling worms from the ground. The weather there looks as user friendly as it is here at the moment as the light is so-so and you have snowing falling as well, despite the conditions this is a good time of the season shot of Mr.Robin and his colour is vivid in contrast to the dullness around him.A nice view of the current reality for this little chap and thanks for sharing him. Hello Bob,
Well you kept sending your snow to Montana so we came home. Then what do I see, snow and a beautiful Robin. Very nice capture of this Robin in the snow, it has great colors and focus. Birds that get caught in a snowstorm always look dejected to me. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Rick

Ah, Bob, you found one! I love the irony of the robin against the snowy background. It's been that kind of year :) Ours is almost gone, at last. So today we're morphing from rain to hail to perhaps an inch or two of the white stuff -- and much more not much further north of us. Almost dead-center composition here, but it works with the framing, the position on the diagonal branch, and the contrast. Love the detail that extends to the melting snow droplets on that red-orange breast. Nice!

Best,
Jim

I find this bird perched on the branch of a snow-covered tree rather lonesome, Bob. A bit strange to see the harbinger of spring running straight into winter. But then it is nature and we have to submit to its quirks. I'm afraid with the global warming turning into reality, the quirks of nature are bound to show up frequently.
The American Robin is a handsome bird, as I can see from your picture.
Thanks for sharing the image and best regards.

Hello Bob,
A lovely wintery image with snow covered branches. The little Robin really brightens up the scene! Nice to see how its bright colour matches the Maple keys perfectly.
Not long now and the snow will be gone! I hope we've seen the last of it here.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Such a bright red against ALL THAT SNOW!!

You guys sure have gotten your share and then some, huh?

A lovely shot - well composed and interesting. :) I love the way the few little leaves mirror the color of the bird.

Namastay BOB,
A nice capture of this beautiful robin. Very good composition and details with a nice POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
Haraprasan

Hello Bob, very good shot of the Robin, well done my friend! Thanks! I've not seen the Robin so far here...

Mario

The Robin is the messenger of spring. The bird informed you ‘Don’t get astonished. I arrived little early to get pictured by you.”

Hi Bob,
I've seen a few of those Robins here too, they do make me feel good to see them as we are getting closer to spring!
I like your photo with this one in the branches which are covered with snow, his bright orange belly shows really well!

Hello Bob

A wonderful capture of this red breasted robin.I like these shots of them in the bare tree branches.I bet there are enough different postings like this to make a theme.
The red of the robin is striking.
You have created a nice ambiance with this one.
TFS

Rob

Hi Bob,

The american robin on the branch is impressive. The details and colors of the bird are clear and precise. The branches are a natural frame of the subject. The reflection of the light on the snow brings out the colors. Have a nice day.
