The picture shows an artistic act of the spiny spider
- Metellina segmentata
- family: Metidae

on a leaf of Salix caprea.

Information on the species
Metellina segmentata is not rare and can be found in open bush-land and at forest margins.
Length of the body is about 8 mm, but it has impressively long legs.
The body colour pattern reminds of that of the garden spider (Aranaea diadematus), but body shapes are quite distinct.

Conditions
- natural bright light
- ISO 400
- handheld

Hi Peter,
Very nice macro picture. Focus is on the spot and exposure is perfect. I also like the way you composed this picture. Congratulations.

Hello Peter,

Great sharpness and details in this beautiful spider image.
Love the pose of the spider ready to grab some prey.
Most wonderful details.
Excellent work. TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Hello Peter,

Very nice diagonal composition. Excellent sharpness. Very good exposure and colours. I have not seen this spider yet. Does it build an orb-web like the Araneus diadematus?
Cheers,
Mariki

You've shown an expertly approach to this wonderful capture from a dorsal POV Peter, the deep depth zone of an f/13 rendered the whole spider perfectly in focus, providing us with great pattern and colouration characteristics of the specimen. Thank you indeed for sharing this fine macro-scene with us.

Ola PETER
Fascinante fotografia desta curiosa aranha, as cores ficaram agradaveis e a luminosidade muito boa. O que mais impressiona nesta foto é a riqueza de detalhes nesta macro. A nitidez ficou excelente.

Nice shot. The way it is holding its web and balancing itself looks very interesting. Sharply focussed and good composition too. Thanks for sharing.
