Siriema (Cariama cristata)

Cientific Name: Cariama cristata
Common Name: Siriema
Caracteristics: This is a tipical bird of cerrado (vegetation of the brazilian interior), the siriema has a magestic presence and a long tail. Its plumage is Yellow-grayed, with thin dark streak: abdomen a bit more clear, red neb and legs. It has a crista formed by a flock of long plumes, measuring around 12 cm. It is one of the few birds that has É uma das poucas aves que possuem eyelash. Can grow and average of 70 cm, going until 90 cm long e weight until 1,4 kg.
Food: worms, rodents, insects e small reptiles, including lizards and snakes, are part of its diet.
Biology and social behavior: during the day, couple or small group search food on the floor. At night, they perch in low branches.
Reproduction: the couple use o casal usa piece of kindling to build they nests on trees, where they put two white, pink and grey eggs. The couple relay on the hatch. After 26 days, the eggs break out but the parents use only to grow one of the nestling that stays around 2 week on the nest, where it is fed. They live on field or cerrados.
