Natrix natrix persa - Grass snake, adult. Lives mainly near water as it feeds on fish and amphibians, but it will also eat mice, little birds and insects too. Harmless snake, non-poisonus. Often plays dead when caught and excretes fluids from its skin that smells like dead animal to discourage hunters to eat it.

Reaches often up to 1m or more.

Il really like this one for its long horizontal composition, the sharp look on the snake's face, the tongue that you managed to 'freeze' in the air, and the beautiful colors - blue and green in the BG. WOW! What astunning portrait of this beautiful animal! And excellent timing to capture the tongue like this. Excellent detail in the skin and the eyes. THe crop really focuses the eye on the portrait and the bokeh gives an idea of surrounding environment.

Love the reptile and amphibians photos in your gallery. This one is simply brilliant!
I've tried so many times to capture the sticking out tongue but I've never managed to get a clear shot. This picure is really sharp and perfectly exposed. Love the BG too.

A wonderful image of this beautiful creature Ilias.
I love snakes and used to keep grass snakes when I was at school in London.
Sadly,snakes are not allowed into New Zealand at all so its not possible to keep them here.
A great hot anyway.
