[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A mixed flock of migrating Robins and Cedar Waxwings came through during April and fed on my Crabapple tree. Thankfully I caught sight of them and was able to capture a few shots in the bright sun.

The American Robin (Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the thrush family. The coloring on a robin's breast is what makes it stand out apart from the others, a brightly colored red breast sets apart the males from the females. This led to its common name, "Robin Red-breast".

It is widely distributed throughout North America, wintering south of Canada from Florida to central Mexico and along the Pacific Coast. It has seven subspecies, but only T. m. confinis in the southwest is particularly distinctive, with pale gray-brown underparts.

It is the state bird of Connecticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Its diet consists of invertebrates (such as beetle grubs and caterpillars), fruits and berries.

It is one of the first bird species to lay eggs, beginning to breed shortly after returning to its summer range from its winter range. Its nest consists of long coarse grass, twigs, paper, and feathers, and is smeared with mud and often cushioned with grass or other soft materials. It is among the first birds to sing at dawn, and its song consists of several discrete units that are repeated.

Vocalization
The male American Robin, as with many thrushes, has a beautiful, complex and almost continuous song. Its song is commonly described as a cheerily carol, made up of discrete units, often repeated, and spliced together into a string with brief pauses in between. The song varies regionally, and its style varies by time of day. The American Robin is often among the first songbirds singing as dawn rises, and last as evening sets in. It usually sings from a high perch in a tree.

Hi Richard,
a nice American Robin, could be a cousin to my fieldfare :-)
But the song is much more beautiful than the fieldfare.
Lovely light and nice colours, the detail are sharp and it's well composed.

I like very much the colors tones from you photo. Birds plumage colors suits very well with the background and not the least with the dryed red fruits. Very good image quality with nice sharp details of the bird.

Hi Richard,

This looks more like a pastel painting of a Robin than it does a photograph. Very beautiful and delicate. The background and setting adds much to this image. Beautiful pose, expression, colors and details.

Hi Richard, I had to catch up with my critiques, it had been a while! I don't know what it is with that kind of picture, those with few branches, a blurred and neutral background, beautiful red fruits and a fantastic bird: I love them! This one is zen in its natural colours and beautiful lines delineated by the branches, the feathers of the bird and the fruits hanging loosely. This is among the nicest picture of an American Robin I have seen, congratulations, it is beautiful.
