The gorges and rock formations within Karijini National Park are absolutelly fantastic.
The colour of the rocks varies from ockre to ruby red and deep blue and they may contain more than 80 percent iron ore. The surface is smooth and eroded by water and floods during the rainy season. Deep in the gorges permanent waterholes are nice and shady for swimming where as in summer the rocks heat up like an oven. Nearby at Marble Bar temperatures in summer can reach more than 52 degrees celcius and are recorded as the hottest on the 5th continent. |
