[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I think this is Fuligo septica, as the fruiting bodies were fairly large, each was about 16-20 cm long. They were still soft and spongy.

Once thought to be fungi due to their manner of reproduction, i.e. producing spores from structures that somewhat resemble fungal fruiting bodies, these organisms are now placed in the Protist kingdom. During their active stage, they are blobs of naked protoplasm that creep around under logs and leaves, consuming bacteria, fungi and other organic matter. When conditions are right for reproducing, they crawl up onto various structures and transform into fruiting bodies.

It looks like polyestirene foam :)
Thanks for bringing one of my fauvorite subject, slimemoulds. I added to a personal theme where I try to collect the ones I come across in TN.
Excellent control of the whites and very clear photo.
Regards, Felipe.
PD: Very interesting and descritive information in your link, thanks too.

Hi John,

I saw some strange looking fungus species recently up at Girraween National Park, but didn’t take the macro lens with me; the detail in this is excellent, perfect exposure, interesting notes to, all the best

Cheers Rick :)

Hi John,
A very good capture of this species, and a good addition to our collection of slime molds.
I see a lot like this over here in New Zealand too.
Thanks for sharing.
Steve

Hello John,

Very good and interesting picture. I have never seen slimemoulds yet. Excellent POV, DOF and sharpeness. Very good light and natural colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hi my dear friend, another interesting fungus species which I have not seen before. I am learning with your excellent captures on these organisms. TFS my friend.
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi John,
Slime molds are rarely seen on TN, thanks to you we get to know this highly interesting group of protists better. Already as a student I was fascinated by the fact that the simple unicellular organism could build complex fruit bodies, the cells collaborating perfectly.
Thanks a lot fir this presentation and the detailed text that goes with it.
My best regards
Dietrich

Hello John
I see you are really a great expert in fungi... and Protist? I had never heard of it. How strange and curious this species is! You captured it perfectly with great sharpness and every detail in an excellent composition.
Congratulations and TFS
Best regards
Maite
