Tale of the Sparrow and the Eagle

There once was a sparrow that lived in a bush near some fields. One day, he saw a mighty eagle flying in the air and thought "I wish I were an eagle, flying so high".

The eagle swooped down, grabbed a lamb in its talons and carried it off."I wish I could do that" said the sparrow. "I have wings like the Eagle and feathers as bright, why can't I do it?".With this, the sparrow took off and flew to the fields, where he swooped down on a lamb. But he was not strong and was caught up in the fleece.

The shepherd came along and found the sparrow; he untangled it, tied a string around its leg, took it home and gave it to his sons to play with. His son asked him “What is this?” and answered the shepherd “This is he that aped a greater than himself and came to grief.”

My dear friends, the moral of the story meant “lest you aspire above your station, you shall end up in grief”. The sparrow represented the peasant’s bird and the eagle represented the Emperor. This was a Dara Happan cautionary tale, designed to ensure that people remain in their place and was originally told Solarus Skywatch, a Yelmalion nobelman who wished to be a king.*

But I would say in this day and age, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO ASPIRE, BUT DO REMEMBER IT IS NOT JUST YOUR LOOKS THAT WILL GET YOU WHAT YOU WANT, BUT YOUR INTELLECT AND MENTAL STRENGTH.
So go on aspire…
fly high like the eagle
but stay away from evil
do know the zing of high thrill
and the swooping low of life’s mill
reach high; you can, if you will
go on fly high like the eagle…

Male House Sparrow:

The male House Sparrow has a grey crown, cheeks and underparts, black on the throat, upper breast and between the bill and eyes. The bill in summer is blue-black, and the legs are brown. In winter the plumage is dulled by pale edgings, and the bill is yellowish brown. The female has no black on head or throat, nor a grey crown; her upperparts are streaked with brown.

The juveniles are deeper brown, and the white is replaced by buff; the beak is dull yellow. The House Sparrow is often confused with the smaller and slimmer Tree Sparrow, which, however, has a chestnut and not grey crown, two distinct wing bars, and a black patch on each cheek.

The House Sparrow is gregarious at all seasons in its nesting colonies, when feeding and in communal roosts.

This is a superb capture of a male House sparrow, with his wings in a position reminiscent of those of an Eagle! A fine note to go with it too!
The sharpness and DOF is superb and it shows well against the OOF green BG.

This is one of the few birds from India that are also common here. Wonderful pose showing off the House Sparrow's tail feather and plummage so well. I like the profile of his face too. Nice natural colors and good details. Good shot!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful image of the sparrow with us. I like the back view pose in which you have captured it. This way it entitles us to see and admire the plumage in all its glory and splendour, and this bird surely have plumage that is worthy to display. The arrangement of autumn colours of the feathers is really stunning, and I especially like the shape of the tailpiece. Looking at the bandy legs it reminds me of an old granny's legs. I enjoyed reading your note, and I personally like this sparrow and do not mind that it is a sparrow and not an eagle.

This is a perfectly humorously titled picture.
The Cock sparrow is one of my favourite birds and you have captured this fella perfectly flexing his wings..Im guessing by his stance just after you pressed the shutter he was gone?...Super low pov and the lovely bg really highlights this wonderful Cock Sparrow.

When I was young there were sparows in Chandigarh....now they are no more there.....but surprisingly they are in Shimla.
