Hello again everyone

I just came back from a very nice outing at my favorite thermal water place :) I am happy to report that i found about 15 species of Odonatas, photographed about 12 of those and rather happy with 3 photos :) But still, not bad for 4 hours of work :)

I felt like posting a dragonfly today (because i've been posting mostly damsels and landscapes lately) and chose this: a young White-tailed skimmer female, or Orthetrum albistylum.

Their population at this place is rather large and therefore it's rather easy to spot one. Now from that point to actually taking a good shot it's a loong way, since they don't like too much movement around them and they usually prefer to rest in lower and thicker vegetation. However, here i was luckier and saw this one on a lonelier twig, sneaked up on her very slowly and took a few shots.

This species' distribution is patchy, but it is generally not uncommon stretching all the way to China and Japan. In Europe, in is found in the south of the continent, probably reaching its most nordic point in Poland.
It prefers open ponds and lakes and it flies from May to September.

Hope you'll like it :)

Hello Horia!
It is really nice to see you again! :)
The dragonfly looks really preetty, picture is nice composed and has good details and DOF.
By the way, just as an interesting (in my opinion) thing - do you know that recently a ne genus (yes, a genus, not only a species) was discovered as new for science in Europe? (-->Croatia). Moreover, the author of field guide to Odonata which is used by you is thinking that probably (?) new taxa of this insect order can be found in... Romania! I really could not believe in that words, but on the other hand, why not? :) So you know - just please have your camera always when you plan field trips! ;)
Best regards from Lodz!
Radek

Mr Bogdan Sir
Despite not having your usual lense of choice you have as a truly good photographer adapted your available equipment to capture an amazingly sharp and detailed picture of this Orthetrum albistylum..
You had a great day to spot 15 species and capture 12..And get 3 Keepers!!..Thats a very good average in my book..I would call that 2gb worth!!
Simply stunning work as ever.
All the Best to you.
Paul

she is absolutely beautiful in her golden appearance Horia...You are very well taught in many areas of this photo business....and although I like your landscapes best...this is right up there iwth the others Ohio do this on TN......exception perhaps only for master of perfection..whom none shall even think of competing...Mr Sumon sir...Nice work Horia!

Hi Horia!

You present us a picture that is minted with your signature: great exposure, perfect sharpness and lighting. Moreover, the subject is delightful, very well put on stage. One can feel that the author of pictures like this one is not just a lucky amateur. Only tenacity and perseverance together with a good eye can produce such a beauty...

Kind regards

Markus

Great shot, Horia!
Good to see you're still able to get dragonfly shots without the 70-300mm (btw I broke my 100-400 today!!!! The zooming has partly jammed and there's a sickening grating sound whenever I try to zoom in!! Hopefully it will be fixable!)

Decent composition and POV.
Great light too.
DOF is a bit shallow I think but is not too much of a problem.
I went out again today and found a few more damsels... we've had a spell of hot weather these last few days so everything s coming to life before it starts to rain again :-)

Very nice work, Horia!

Joe

p.s did you read my reply to the "discussion" we had yesterday? If you have then I hope everything is still alright...

THis is a lovely dragon fly shot with interesting PoV and a muted BG green colours. Did you clone some bit of space out there?
THe details are sharp and i love that golden shining colour.Very well done.

Hi Horia.
First of all I am surprised a lot. You have used TC which recommended for 100 mm and above lens with wide angle lens. You have not use for these purposes my lovely Sigma 70-300 mm lens. However, you are lucky researcher and photographer. You have met so many nice species and have chance to take these beauties. Image of the dragonfly on dry thin stem is looked on charmingly blurred BG perfectly. My best wishes and kind regards.
Alexei.
