Hi friends, today I present a pair of beautiful orange waxgill (Hygrocybe blanda), again from the Arnold River Reserve. This was an amazing reserve with over a dozen colourful species distributed across the forest floor. Steve (LordPotty) and I spent nearly fours hours admiring and photographing the fantastic that grow here. Without doubt this mixed beech forest is the most diverse I been to thus far.

Orange waxgills have a small pileus (cap), only 8-15mm across that sits on top of beautifully smooth and sinuous stipe (stem) that can grow to 50mm high. They are found in moist mixed forest from April to June. They are considered rare and apparently only known from a few locations on the north and south islands of New Zealand.

Shot in super-macro mode on a mini-tripod with natural light. For info sources, see previous post.

Hello Chris,
Another beautiful fungal portrait of a rare species with excellent sharpness and DOF and their orange colour contrasts well with the forest floor BG.
Nice to see and thanks for sharing this,
Regards, Ivan

Nice Orange, but i found the leaves abit distract. Anyhow, nice shot over all.
