Hello,

yet another Bluebell shot! Last one i promise...well, probably ;o) The thing is they're only around for a short time each year so i kind of like to make the most of them whilst they're here.
Quite an interesting challenge to shoot these from this angle, this time with the low setting sun beaming in directly behind me from the edge of the woods.
What drew me to this POV was the glowing tree trunk and the marked difference in colour between the bluebells in the shade and those in direct sunlight, which you can hopefully see here.
Using the grad (Cokin P121) to hold back the orange glare whilst also using the Circular Polarisor to add some saturation inevitably created a long exposure time, hence the 30 seconds and slight movement from a gentle breeze on the Bluebells in the foreground. I was also dictated as to where to place my camera because it's shadow would be in view, so i plonked it here, in the shade of a nearby tree.
The horizon is a little too centrally placed for my liking if i'm honest, but i had quite a few things to consider at the time as well as the incessant biting from flying nasties!

'Thousands of years ago, Dorset was almost entirely covered in woodland made up of oak, ash, elm, lime and many other trees. Much of this ‘wild-wood’ was cleared by our ancestors for agriculture, creating a range of different habitats such as meadows and heaths. Now, less than 10% of Dorset is covered in woodland.
Ancient woodlands are very important for wildlife, supporting many plants and animals that are not found in more recent woods. In fact, the presence of these plants and animals is a good ‘indicator’ that the wood is ancient.
Bluebell, Wood anemone, Yellow archangel, and Wood spurge are indicators of ancient woodland. If you find them in a wood, it is likely that there has been continuous tree cover for at least 400 years.'

PP: shot in RAW, a tweak of curves, lightened shadows + 3, resized, converted to JPEG and sharpened

Crikey..Theres a lot of thought gone into this...as every photo should have.
You have captured the scene perfectly..The glowing light is awesome..In the distance there is the light without tree cover...And on the floor there are so many of natures finest offerings that bewilder me to identify many at all....I know this will look so much better at a bigger size than TN allows.
Top work and I do feel like I am there witnessing the scene.

Another lovely capture of this beautiful wood scape. Excellent composition and sharp details. One thing I don't understand in this when you have mentioned 30 secs exposure time still then the plant parts are not blurred. Wasn't there any wind. Anyway Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Paul,

You are applying the same skill to woodland photography, that you do on the beach. This low pov is so effective, creating a fascinating f/g to lead us into the rest of the shot.
The light is just amazing! Not only is it highlighting the flowers, but also turning the trunks orange!

Well, I don't mind to see as many Bluebell shots as you wish coming from you! They are so beautiful and different one from another! I love the light on this one and the magnificent point of view. Really superb!

You did it! I was waiting on your series of bluebell shots. I knew they were blooming, since my parents had a few in their garden as well. The bed of colors and the fire red tree do make for a stunning view. The movement in the front flowers and the well thought of POV is great. Excellent work on the exposure considering the very difficult light in a forrest.

This picture reminds me a bit of a similar one I did lately. I will maybe post it soon; flowers were not Bluebells though but White Trilliums... Your technique is much interesting and the result is wonderful (better than mine) with superb POV, exposure, colors and lightning! I should try some of your photographic tips someday :) Congrats on a very nice picture!

What an interesting and impressive colouration of the scene. You managed to select a great moments for shooting. I also like widest DOF and crisp sharpness of all pictured object, great use of wide angle and brilliant exposure of the image. Bravo and my kind regards.
