Let's see whether I get any attention to a spider picture.
On the shore of the Gérine river in Tentlingen/ Switzerland we (anel, Heaven from TN and I) found this Giant riverbank spider (Aranea; Lycosidae; Arctosa cinerea; Flussufer-Wolfsspinne). This one was 16 mm long (not so "Giant"). From the literature I learned that it is found only on unspoilt, naturally flooded riverbanks. These are rare in Switzerland nowadays, but the Gérine- and Sense rivers have them. The species is on the Red List in Germany where it nears extinction.

hallo Dieter,
Bin wieder schnell.
Anne
Hello Dietrich,
what a nice sharp details macro for this rare species. You presented it with very nice close-up post. Its eyes look very nice. good and informative notes. Thanks for sharing, best wishes
Ahmet
Hello Dietrich!
Yes, this is a rare species, I do not remember if I saw it before on TN. Very nice details and sharpness, and even if it is not very colourful, I like it a lot :>
By the way, what do you think about adding this interesting picture to the PES gallery? Do you adree? :)
Best regards,
Radomir

Hi Dietrich
Ok, so your strategy was successful as you got my attention at least. I am always on the lookout for unique or rare postings to add to my theme for "RARE or SIGNIFICANT contributions to TN". Although this spider is not unique to TrekNature as it seems to be the 4th contribution of this species. The other postings I could find were 2 positively identified specimens and 1 probable. These are:-
1. The first one posted was the possible specimen by Monika MvJ (thistle).
2. The 2nd one was by Krzysztof Pabis (cataclysta).
3. An the 3rd one was by Jacek Kossowski (koss).
You did well with your capture and it seems everything went 'according to the book'. Tripod mount for steadiness, appropriate aperture of f/18 to ensure sufficient DOF at this proximity thus achieving magnificent sharp details, and fill-in flash for exposure management which realised excellent lighting on the subject. The composition is fine and it created a sense of dramatic suspense as it looks like that little spider could leap from the frame at any moment and give the viewer an unsuspected bite.
Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
