I am stumped as to what this bird is... a Mistle Thrush or a Song Thrush? Does anyone know?

This guy was up in a tree singing his heart out. I was able to get quite close with the Sigma 180mm. I suppose I could have got a full-frame shot with the 100-400 but I had just jammed the zooming so couldn't use it... luckily the lens is perfectly fine now.

I hope you like it!

Hello Joe,

I wish I could help you but am equally unsure.
I suppose the name is less important than the very lovely capture! The composition of this shot is excellent! The sharp, detailed bird is nicely off-centre and the twig makes a great diagonal. The abundance of early spring leaves makes a great backcloth.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi,

Very good shot, I like the ambience of the shot.
The main feature between the two birds is the size.
The song measure 20-22cm and 27-29cm for the mistle.
In addition, the mistle is more slender, the song is more squat.

Emilio.

PS: sorry for the english I'm french.

Hi Joe,
A lovely capture of this beautifully patterned bird. Sharp details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Joe,
Thank God your longer lens is fine after jamming. Never mind you couldn't use it; you have done a perfect job with 180mm in shooting this pretty bird.
Very sharp and clear image with natural colours.
TFS and cheers.

Hello Joe,
Excellent capture of a Song Thrush. I like the lighting and composition very much and the shapness is excellent, despite your zoom jamming.

Hi Joe.
Excellent use of long macro lens. You managed to get perfect sharp image of a nice bird and pleasantly smoothed natural surroundings. Lights and colours are wonderful too as well as a framing of the image. My best regards and TFS.

Hi Joe,

Perfect capture of what I believe is Song Thrush. The plain colours would be for that but I think the clearest would be the song: Song Thrush is mimiging everything and is close to a nightingale as Mistle Trush is more like The Black Bird - nice song but its going nowhere... Very good pose and composition, sharp details and good colours.

TFS

Best wishes

Hello Joe, I am sorry i dont hv the ID. This is superb shot. Excellent sharpness. Lovely clarity. Ganesh

Hi Joe,
Great comp and pose as the bird looks up into the left corner..
Good color, DOF, details, and you handled the exposure well, looks like it was a difficult scene.
The OOF stuff FG does not distract too much.
Well done & TFS!

Hi joe

Wonderful capture of the elegant Song Thrush.
Very nicely composed with a great POV and a fine pose.
Beautiful colours and light.
Very nice details and I like the way the leaves are OOF around the bird.
There is one sitting on my back fence right noe but I know as soon as I open the door it will fly away!
