Texas Blue Jay. See Workshop for "extreme" crop.

I would prefer to show a portrait at a lower ISO for the best quality. But this was shot before 7:00am with early light. I would love to own an F/2.8 prime, but it must wait..

THIS IS ACTUALLY A "LANDSCAPE WITHIN A PORTRAIT".

If you look closely, you can see the window I shoot my birds from in the Blue Jays eye - SEE WORKSHOP.

Closer still, and you can see a wide angle view of the entire house on its wet beak.

The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird, a member of the family Corvidae native to North America. It belongs to the "blue" or American jays, which are, among the Corvidae, not closely related to other jays. It is adaptable, aggressive and omnivorous, and has been colonizing new habitat for many decades..

Thanx for lookin' and have a Great Sunday!

Hello Howard,
The fairly high ISO is not noticeable and the sharpness impecable, the reflections in the eye and wet beak clear for all to see. I can see that you got your gardening done!:)
It is also a fine close portrait of the Texas Blue Jay in superb morning lighting against a fine bokeh.
Thanks for sharing this beauty and have a good Sunday,
Ivan

i guess iso640 with the mark III is hardly noticeable, isn´t it? anyway, superb portrait of the pretty blue jay, the reflections
of your home in its eye and beak are really cool. sharpness and colors are prefect as usual and the morning light is a beautiful
addition. terrific job & have a great sunday too, thor.

Hi Howard,
As usual your picture that extra zing :-). This POV itself is something which most ppl don't shoot , but portraits of insects or birds will always bring in that extra details which we usually don't see!
Details, colors and a diffused BG makes this a spl picture.

The jay is such an interesting bird, even though it is very intrusive at my picnics. Between Jays and yellow jackets...I do not know which is worse..They can lift a small piece of steak meat!!! thieves! but at least beauty is not among their bad traits. I love their colours...now if they would just be quiet and let me eat:-) I see no problems with the ISO but you know your camera much better than I....looking sharp Howard.

Hello Howard,
In spite of the early morning poor light you've got a splendid close-up of this Jay!
I can just make out your house and some trees, I think. This bird certainly has a big mirror here!! Often one tends to see the photographer which is less fun! As usual, technically brilliant!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Howard,
Excellent shot of this Blue Jay with lovely colours and details on its plumage. The high ISO has not affected much I think and the morning light gives the image perfect illumination. Great DOF and a well chosen POV from that window which I see on that eye. Very nice composition. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Howard,

I don't think anyone would have known about the high ISO. The picture is just about perfect. Beautiful Blue Jay with an amazing eye, wonderful colors and fine details. Every feather seems to stand out. A perfect background for a marvelous portrait.

Hi Howard.
It is necessary to have strong improved imagination to see landscape and your house :))) I am satisfied by what I can see. Nice three-dimensional portrait of the charming bird-model. I like the composition a lot, vivid colours and stunning details of the bird and fine smooth BG.

When I wrote these words I understood my mistake and looked into the jay eye. Bravo. Now I can imagine where you are living in.

Hi Howard

Wonderful shot of the pretty Blue Jay.
I like the close crop as it shows the light falling onto the birds face and shoulder very nicely.
Super sharp details, great colours and a lovely BG.

Hello Howard,

I'm agree with Argus. I cann't noticeable fairly high ISO. Amazing reflections in the eye and on the beak. My opinion is: "A splendid close-up of this Jay" Thanks for sharing and try some more of this high ISO'S (-:

Your WS is perfect.

Regards and TFS BOB

This is a lovely shot, Howard...I maintain that I am ignorant in matters of technicalities, but like all, I can see that this Blue Jay has been done great justice by you.Especially so in the light conditions you had.
Cheers!
Goldy

Hello Howard,
A fine portrait, and the details are impressive as always!
The nice light renders really pleasant colours, and the reproduction allows me to count every little feather...
The little fellow is nicely framed!
Greetings,
Pablo -

WOW!!!! That's amazing! What detail and sharpness!
since I've moved to the country, I don't see bluejays any longer.
Great shot!

Ciao Howard,
splendido ritratto di ghiandaia azzurra, eccellenti POV e DOF, molto bello il momento di cattura con la bellissima postura e straordinario il riflesso della scena nell'occhio, eccellente definizione dei dettagli del piumaggio, bellissimi i colori.
TFS. Maurizio
