Forest in Eldorado Canyon State Park

Yes I do photograph more than just mountains ;-)
This is in Eldorado Canyon State Park near Boulder, Colorado, it is on the south side of the Flat Irons, 2 very prominent mountain peaks visible from Boulder. The canyon is carved by the South Boulder Creek and is home to some world class rock climbing.
This photo was taken above the canyon on this 3 mile (4.8 kilometer)one-way hiking trail. I was on my way back from the top of the trail when this scene grabbed my attention. I don't know any of the plants these are, I am not that knowleagable, but the yellow leafed one was quite interesting, the only problem was the wind was blowing real hard and every shot I tried to make there was motion on the yellow leafed ones, I couldn't get a fast shutter speed since I was in shadow and I really didn't want to jump the ISO up any since I wanted to keep the noise down to a minimum.
I would like to know what kind of plant the yellow leafed one is, all I can describe it as is that the leaves looks like plants do in the Autumn, I don't even know if they are only like this during the spring time or if they are like this in summer as well, but these leaves really makes you think it is Autumn again.
Just a little tid bit of infor, I was carrying a 35 pound backpack with me on this 6 mile round trip hike trying to condition myself for the larger backpacking trips into the Eagles Nest Wilderness north fo Silverthorne and Vail. I actually did pretty good considering I haven't backpacked in over 2 years and haven't even hiked in nearly 1 year |

Paul,
Very nice forest scene, very natural and down to earth. Most people will not even stop or bother to enjoy. You see the beauty in simple and natural thing. Technically can be a bit sharper but, very nice and enjoyable. Thanks
