[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Not sure if this chick had fledged yet but its nest mate flew off just before I took this picture. Tomorrow I will upload a picture of the mother in flight.

I used Photoshop CS2, which has many advantages over Photoshop CS for the digital photographer. Didn't have to do too much adjusting, just lightened up the owl's feathers a bit so you can see the detail.

This owl nest is just off one of the 24 miles of nature trails we have where I live. The "600mm" equivalent on my digital camera made this an easy shot. It turned around so I got to shoot it back-lit.

In case any one cares, I am using a Gitzo G2228 carbon monofilament tripod with a Kirk ball head. I can't stress too much how much using a tripod can help improve many nature shots. Of course, even VR [vibration reduction] is useless if the owl moves. Strangely enough, you must turn off the VR feature if you are using a tripod.

nice potrait of this little own. Even to the backlight, it's a nice picture to look at. A beautiful composition showing the chick at its environment.

What a lovely shot of this chick. Excellent clarity of detail on its face.

Why do you have to turn off the VR when using a tripod? I have a new Nikon and see this on my directions too, and can't figure out why?
