Today, I would like to dedicate this this yellow beauty to another one of our heartfelt and kind lady friend in TN, Francine Malo (NinaM) from Canada! Hoping that you like this shot!.

Ranunculus is a large genus of about 400 species of plants in the Ranunculaceae. It includes the buttercups, spearworts, water crowfoots and the lesser celandine (but not the greater celandine of the poppy family Papaveraceae).
They are mostly herbaceous perennials with bright yellow or white flowers (if white, still with a yellow centre); some are annuals or biennials. A few have orange or red flowers and occasionally, as in R. auricomus, petals may be absent. The petals are often highly lustrous, especially in yellow species.

The Water crowfoots (subgenus Batrachium), which grow in still or running water, are sometimes treated in a separate genus Batrachium. They have two different leaf types, thread-like leaves underwater and broader floating leaves although for some species, such as R. aquatilis, a third, intermediate leaf form occurs.

Buttercup usually flower in April or May but flowers may be found throughout the summer especially where the plants are growing as opportunistic colonisers, as in the case of garden weeds.

All Ranunculus species are poisonous when eaten fresh by cattle, horses, and other livestock, but their acrid taste and the blistering of the mouth caused by their poison means they are usually left uneaten. Poisoning can occur where buttercups are abundant in overgrazed fields where little other edible plant growth is left, and the animals eat them out of desperation. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, excessive salivation, colic, and severe blistering of the mucous membranes and gastrointestinal tract. When Ranunculus plants are handled, naturally occurring ranunculin is broken down to form protoanemonin, which is known to cause contact dermatitis in humans and care should therefore be exercised in excessive handling of the plants. The toxins are degraded by drying, so hay containing dried buttercups is safe.

Ranunculus species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species. Some species are popular ornamental flowers in horticulture, with many cultivars selected for large and brightly coloured flowers.

Mythology: The Latin name “ranunculus” (ranum=frog+-ulus postfix=minute) means "little frog":). In fairy tales frogs are apt to change into princes and it was an Asian prince in just such a story who gave his name to this flower, which grows naturally in swampy ground. The prince was so good-looking that he was loved by everyone. He also had a beautiful voice but this was his undoing. He loved the open country and sang delightful songs in the presence of nymphs. He did not have the courage to declare his love to them and this haunted him so much that he died. After his death he was changed into the flower with delicate tissuey petals which bears his name.

I am not sure exactly but I think the buttercup which I captured in here from Bolkar Mt around the Karagöl Lake is Ranunculus munzurensis - Munzur Meadow buttercup with a high pobability which is an endemic to the highlands of that region. It is very short (approx. 10 cm) flower.

I am thrilled at the association you have made between our names while signing off your critique on my previous picture.
I guess the word "bay" has a positive meaning in your language; I have seen some critiques in which the person addressed to is called "bay", so it must be nice word.
As for me, I am named after one major god in Hindu pantheon.

Coming to your picture, it is a lovely capture of an attractive wild flower.
The note with it gives a wonderful insight into the genus of this wide-spread species of flowers.
I like the composition very much.

Bayram, that is a nice thought! I was looking at your "yellow" series when I saw my name and felt touched. I have always loved buttercups and let them grow on my yard... I even wish there were more. They are actually flowering here. I didn't know they were poisonous. As kids we used to eat their petals... well, not too much of them! We would be fascinated by their humble beauty, the shining on the petals and the beautiful bright yellow. Thank you Bayram for your kind dedication, it is touching and appreciated much! The picture is lovely and soft, with the beautiful pollen powdered here and then on the flower.

Again the computer ate my text.At last a flower I have heard of - a buttercup. Seems to me when we were kids we held one under our chin and something was supposed to happen but I don't remember what. Never knew they were posionous. A wonderful macro of this tiny flower with wonderful yellows and good details. A nice dedication to our friend Francine.

Your yellow dedication series is turning out quite well dear Bayram...this single flower makes a fine composition of an uplifting and cheerful yellow.The lone flower stands up against a Bg that plays down itself to present the almost frame filling flower in its beauty and details.The PoV is nice and DoF i find interesting .
