Many Many thanks to Ivan(Argus)for getting me the correct ID.

Paddyfield Pipit (Anthus rufulus) is a medium-sized passerine bird which is a resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from Pakistan and India eastwards to Indonesia and the Philippines.

It is found in open habitats, especially short grassland and cultivation. It builds its nest on the ground. Like other pipits, this species is insectivorous.

This is a large pipit at 15cm, but is otherwise an undistinguished looking bird, mainly streaked grey-brown above and pale below with breast streaking. It has long legs and tail and a long dark bill. Sexes are similar, but juveniles have warmer brown upperparts.

In south Asia in winter some care must be taken to distinguish this from other large pipits which winter or are resident in the area, such as Richard's Pipit, Anthus richardi. Paddyfield Pipit is smaller than Richard's, stands less upright and has a weak fluttering flight. Perhaps the best distinction is the characteristic "chip-chip-chip" call, quite different from Richard's Pipit's explosive "shreep".
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Motacillidae
Genus: Anthus
Species: A. rufulus
Thanks a lot for viewing.

Hello Hara,
This is an excellent capture: you must have been able to come quite close to this young bird. This is a juvenile Paddyfield Pipit (Anthus rufulus). Very good sharpness sets it off against the busy OOF Bg and you caught him in a fine pose from a nice low POV.
TFS a species not often seen on TN,
Ivan

I have an Indian bird guide which Fartash sent me, but my ife lent it to my daughter for her kids to see...but it is ID'able I am sure...Very nice capture of something unusually new.

Hello Haraprasan,
I'm not sure about the ID, but it looks like a young Pipit. I don't have an explanation for the blue colours. Good photo.

Peter

Veo que Ivan (Argus) siempre está atento y nos soluciona nuestras identificaciones... le debemos unas cervezas :-))
Interesante toma con un buen encuadre pero algo falta de enfoque.

Hi Haraprasan,

I see Ivan came thru with the ID - of course. I recognized it as a juvenile but couldn't go further than that. He let you come pretty close to get this nice shot. I love the opened beak!!!

Hello Haraprasan,
Lovely capture of this little Pipit. These birds are so nicely camouflaged and hard to see on the ground. Good focus, sharp details and natural colours. Well done!

Hi Hara

I cannot recall having seen this little passerine before so thanks for sharing it. I am glad that Ivan was able to assist you with the ID.

Although it is a lovely image and most critiquers said it is nice and sharp, but in all reality I hate to be a party pooper in saying that it actually looks a little soft for me. Probably that was due to the extended focal length at the max 200mm of the lens and possibly due to some cropping you had to do. Anyway, I don't want to be over critical or get into nit picking because overall it is actually a pleasant posting. Clearly the little bird is singing its heart out just for you. The composition is great with excellent sense of scale and positioning and ample free space.

Good effort and TFS.
Regards
Loot
