Hello Jane, a very fine close-up of this duck and yes, it looks like a mallard. What I like most about your picture is the nice and quiet light, even falling on the duck's head. Those little spots of light add a lot of atmosphere, this picture is moody and as quiet as the duck's rest. Thank you!

yes it is a female mallard duck and it is a wonderful shot
of this beautiful duck, very fine POV, DOF and framing,
i love the good spaces that you leaved around the duck
(in comparaison of the Duckling that was cropped to close)
