We have so many wild roses on the Palouse and from here to the wilderness mountains. the only thing holding them back are the checkerboard farmlands which are super large tracts of land set for agriculture. This particular Wild Rose is out on the Cheney Spokane Road which is what locals call the "back way" into Spokane. The back way covers a corner of the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge and a small corner of the Palouse. We have seen many a wild creature on this short 10 mile or so road. Fortunately for me there are places to pull off the road and walk around a bit. As I recollect this one is about 5 miles from Fish Lake. so many poems about roses...and even some about Wild roses, but thousands of people pass these every day and pay no attention. I wonder if they would pay attention if there were none...

This is probably the Rosa arkansana, which is native up to the Rockies but the Palouse lands are and common name of the Rosa arkansana is the Prairie Rose. there is only a slight smell to them. They live and pass only to come back each year, but in winter after the first frost, we sometimes still pick the rose hips from the bushes as they make a nice supply of vitamin C when added to a sup of tea.

hi Bob, you and your Leica!! there is something special about the shots you do with that camera, they just seem to have an edge, the control of the colour and focus is perfection... I want a Leica!!!!!!!

Wonderful capture. Just enough separation between the rose & the background. Only I would have done different is to maybe get just a little closer in...Love the suble colors

Hi Bob,

I live such a sheltered life - I have never seen a Wild Rose. How beautiful - with such lovely colors and petal shapes. The deep green of the leaves set the flowers off so well. Very nice composition and a pretty picture.

Jane

Hello Bob
Its the richly saturated colours that make this capture stand out for me...Focus is perfect as ever from hands from the pre image stabilisation era...A classic capture of a so overlooked part of hedgerows.
All the Best
Paul

Hi Bob,
this is a photo that I can relate to,as here where I live the wild rose is common, common yes but still very beautiful. This photo is is a mark above most photos I have or have seen ,because of the unusual variegated look that this bloom has.The sharpness and details and above all the colur shine in this capture.Thank you for giving us all this view as it really shines!. Bob

Hi Bob

A lovely shot here - great composition and colours from a master! It reminds me of a New World 'Rosa Mundi' - Rosamund!

Hello Bob,
Always interesting wild roses! This type I never have seen. It is indeed something special with its colour-spots and golden heart. And it is good to humans in wintertime. Something very precious! Thanks a lot.
Anne

Hi Bob

I came across a type of wild rose during my treking to a hill area in Uttarakhand state in India. That one is a combination of white with the yellow spots. This I found different and looking great.I can smell the aroma of this flower right now.

Great pic and great sharing.
May god bless you

Oh Bob, I'd like one in my garden please. We have wild roses growing here in NZ too, but they are no where near here. Maybe next summer I will go look for some.

It is so good seeing this wild rose, and what an unusual colour it is too. I've NEVER seen a cultivated one with such odd patterns. Very pretty and the bush certainly looks very proliferate

Hello Bob,
Excellent close capture of this wild Rose which is most interesting but in my taste not exactly beautiful! I've never seen anything like it before though! Very sharp details and natural colours.

Hi Bob,

A nice close-up image of the wild rose, the point of view is showing the details and colirs of the flower. The leaves are nicely framing the wild rose. The picture is cl;ear and precise. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
